Finance Business Partner (FP&A)

  • Qantas
  • Sydney, Australia
  • A$150,000 – A$180,000

Company Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

  • Managerial role leading financial planning and analysis for Qantas Airlines, with a team of three
  • Own a full planning cycle under the new rolling forecast model, partnering with senior finance leaders to drive Segment planning and performance outcomes
  • 12-month fixed term, full-time role based at Mascot HQ

Reporting to the Head of Finance, Planning and Analysis, you'll lead the planning and performance cadence for Qantas Airlines and manage a team of three Senior Financial Analysts. You'll own that cadence end to end, working alongside Business Unit Heads of Finance, Financial Controllers and commercial stakeholders, turning operational drivers into a financial view leaders can act on.

Across the fixed term you'll own a full planning cycle under the new rolling forecast model, present into planning and performance forums, and gain visibility across an airline network few finance roles offer.

What you'll deliver

  • The monthly performance cycle for Qantas Airlines: result close, variance analysis, and commentary that goes to the Segment CFO and Group Finance.
  • Reforecast, target setting and continuous planning cycles run end to end, from driver assumptions through to submission and review.
  • The financial analysis behind unit cost, capacity and network decisions, including the trade-offs leaders need to see.
  • A measurable lift in how the Segment plans and reports, including shorter cycle times, broader planning horizons and better decision support for the business.
  • Three Senior Financial Analysts led and developed, with clear ownership across the cadence and visible capability growth over the term.

What you'll bring

  • 8+ years in FP&A, commercial finance or finance business partnering, including end-to-end ownership of a forecast or budget cycle.
  • Experience leading and developing a team, including setting priorities and holding the quality bar on what the team delivers.
  • Strong driver-based forecasting and modelling capability, with the judgement to separate the variances that matter from the noise.
  • A track record of influencing senior leaders, and the confidence to challenge an assumption in the room.
  • Able to put a view in front of leaders before the picture is complete, and clear about what it assumes and what would change it.
  • Exposure to the operational drivers of an airline cost base, whether capacity, utilisation, network or fleet.
  • CA or CPA qualified or equivalent, with tertiary qualifications in finance, commerce or a related discipline.
