Summary

The Public Health Educator I plans, implements, and evaluates health education and health promotion programs that address identified community health priorities. This position supports chronic disease prevention and management, healthy lifestyle initiatives, community outreach, and other public health programs designed to improve the health and well-being of Brunswick County residents.

The Public Health Educator I works closely with community members, County and Municipal partners, hospitals, healthcare providers, staff, coalitions, and community-based organizations to provide health education, presentations, programs, and outreach. The position also supports community health assessment and improvement activities, including the CHA, CHIP, SOTCH, and CHNA processes, and assists with program reporting, quality improvement, and Agreement Addendum activities.

This position provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through community engagement, evidence-based health education, program coordination, and collaboration with partners across the county.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in public health education and 1 to 2 years of experience, and some training and experience in the administration and education of programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred: Knowledge of chronic disease intervention strategies such as Diabetes, heart disease, tobacco, or cancer related control and prevention strategies; public communication principles and strategies; knowledge of Agreement Addenda 886 “Healthy Communities”

Supplemental information

Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
