The Opportunity
Designer Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Manager to join our project delivery team in Germany.
This is a senior, site-based construction role with responsibility for the safe and successful delivery of complex mechanical building services installations on a major project.
You will take ownership of mechanical construction activities from installation through commissioning and handover, coordinating site teams, subcontractors, materials, programme, quality and health & safety.
This opportunity would particularly suit a Mechanical Construction Manager with experience delivering large-scale M&E, mission critical, pharmaceutical, healthcare or cleanroom projects.
What You'll Be Doing
As Mechanical Construction Manager, you will:
- Lead the day-to-day delivery of mechanical construction activities on site.
- Manage mechanical supervisors, direct labour and specialist subcontractors.
- Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Develop and manage short-term construction programmes and look-ahead plans.
- Plan labour, materials, plant and equipment requirements in advance.
- Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, CSA and other site disciplines.
- Review drawings, specifications and designs to ensure installations are buildable and fit for purpose.
- Manage subcontractor performance and ensure works are completed in accordance with agreed scope and contract requirements.
- Coordinate material deliveries, plant movements and site logistics.
- Chair and attend construction, coordination and progress meetings.
- Monitor installation progress and provide regular project reporting.
- Carry out site surveys and inspections of mechanical installations.
- Manage mechanical systems through construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Ensure systems are completed and ready for commissioning in line with the project programme.
- Support successful project close-out and delivery against commercial targets.
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Contracts Manager, Engineering, Quality, EHS and Commissioning teams.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
You should have significant mechanical construction experience on large-scale M&E projects, ideally within one or more of the following sectors:
- Mission Critical
- Pharmaceutical
- Healthcare
- Cleanrooms
- Complex commercial or industrial construction
You will also need:
- Proven experience managing mechanical construction teams and subcontractors.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services installations.
- Experience delivering LPHW and CHW systems.
- Experience with ventilation and HVAC systems.
- Experience with plantroom installations.
- Experience with pipework, plumbing and specialist mechanical systems.
- Experience with lab gases would be particularly advantageous.
- Good understanding of mechanical controls, plant and equipment.
- Experience managing construction activities through to commissioning and handover.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent planning, coordination and people-management skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and make practical site-based decisions.
- Flexibility to support project requirements where work outside normal hours is required.
