daa is currently implementing a €3bn capital investment programme to grow the capacity of the airport. The daa Infrastructure Department is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Design team.
The Civil Engineer is responsible for the development of engineering solutions that satisfy the technical, operational and aesthetic requirements of Client briefs whilst being in compliance with codes of practice, EASA / ICAO standards and best international practice.
The role entails the design of large-scale infrastructural projects with a focus on airfield and heavy civil engineering components including airfield geometry, pavements, site works, drainage and utilities, external works associated with buildings, roads and car parks and minor roads works.
This role will also include the production of designs, drawings, specifications, schedules of quantities, calculations, compliance documentation, reports and contract documentation. A large part of the role will require assuring the quality of design activities undertaken by 3rd party consultants while checking for compliance and appropriateness to Dublin Airport.
- Input into the design of airfield and landside civil projects, from preliminary high-level options to comprehensive planning and detailed construction designs.
- Act as design team lead on small to medium scale projects, providing guidance and support to team members.
- Liaise with external designers and co-ordinate designs.
- Review of external design packages and contractor submissions for appropriateness and completeness. Perform technical compliance reviews of civil design documentation, making recommendations based on the review of drawings / specifications / design information and the need to align to daa’s strategic intent.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Ensure that all project deliverables meet strict quality criteria and cost objectives.
- Ensure that designs are complete and co-ordinated in a timely manner in line with project programmes.
- Ensure Contractor compliance with the approved civil designs during the construction phases.
- Ensure works are designed and phased in a manner which minimises operational disruption and are constructable and cost efficient.
- Provide input into Value Engineering and cost reduction exercises.
- Production of design risk assessments and health and safety documents.
- Preparation of tender requests for the procurement of external consultants and supporting the procurement of civil design services and contractors.
- Apply best practice in relation to sustainability and whole life costing.
- Actively work on multiple projects at all times.
Experience
5+ years directly involved in the design process of large infrastructural projects.
Skills
- Experience in Ireland or the UK is advantageous.
- Airport Engineering and Aeronautical Standards knowledge and experience is advantageous.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Strong technical, written and vocal communication abilities.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and the capacity to collaborate, lead and inspire other designers.
- Familiarity with Tii and Uisce Eireann specifications and standards.
- Familiarity with Civil 3D, AutoCad, InfoDrainage and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Education & Qualifications
Minimum Level 8 Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering.
