Senior Manager – MEP

The Senior Manager – MEP will lead the planning, design coordination, execution and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems across assigned projects. The role is responsible for ensuring that MEP works are delivered safely and efficiently, within budget and schedule, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications and quality requirements.

The position will provide strategic and technical leadership to MEP teams, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders, while ensuring seamless integration of MEP services with architectural and structural requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all MEP activities in line with project specifications, programme, budget, quality and safety requirements.
• Coordinate MVAC, electrical, fire protection and compressed air services with civil, structural, architectural and process works.
• Review drawings, specifications, BOQs, shop drawings, technical submissions, method statements and material approvals; promptly resolve technical conflicts and constructability issues.
• Manage MEP subcontractors, suppliers, engineers and supervisors to achieve required productivity and project milestones.
• Monitor MEP budgets, committed and actual costs, forecasts and overall commercial performance; review quotations and participate in technical and commercial negotiations.
• Identify and manage variations, additional works, claims and contractual and commercial risks, ensuring timely documentation and cost recovery.
• Coordinate the procurement of long-lead equipment and monitor progress against the programme, implementing corrective or recovery actions where required.
• Lead testing and commissioning, statutory approvals, preparation of O&M manuals and as-built drawings, and final handover.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards, QA/QC and HSE requirements, and represent the MEP function at client, consultant, technical and commercial meetings.
• Provide regular progress, technical, commercial and risk updates to the Project Manager, and lead the MEP team effectively.

Candidate Profile:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a recognised university.
• Chartered Engineer status will be an added advantage.
• Preferably 12–15 years of relevant MEP/construction experience, including at least five years in a senior MEP management role.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary MEP works on large-scale building, industrial or infrastructure projects, preferably valued at LKR 1 billion or above.
• Strong practical experience in MVAC, electrical, fire protection/detection and compressed air systems.
• Demonstrated experience in technical and commercial management, including budgeting, procurement, subcontract administration, variations, claims, cost control and final accounts.
• Experience managing projects outside Colombo and independently leading site-based teams will be an advantage.
• Strong technical and commercial decision-making, leadership, coordination, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Strong contractual and cost-management awareness, with the ability to take ownership of MEP delivery under demanding project timelines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with confidence in dealing with the Project Manager, clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal management.
• A technically strong, commercially aware and results-oriented MEP professional capable of independently managing the complete MEP package of a major project through successful commissioning and handover.
