Duties & Responsibilities

Rigging & Lifting Operations

· Supervise daily rigging and lifting activities at the operational base and work locations.

· Plan, coordinate, and supervise lifting and rigging operations in accordance with approved lifting plans and procedures.

· Ensure that lifting activities are carried out safely and efficiently, minimizing risks to personnel, equipment, and materials.

· Coordinate with operations, logistics, crane operators, riggers, and other relevant personnel during lifting activities.

· Ensure correct selection and use of slings, shackles, lifting beams, spreader bars, and other lifting accessories according to load requirements.

· Ensure that loads are correctly secured, balanced, lifted, moved, and positioned.

· Stop any unsafe lifting or rigging activity and ensure corrective actions are implemented before work resumes.

Team Supervision

· Supervise and coordinate the activities of riggers and other lifting personnel.

· Allocate tasks and responsibilities according to personnel competence, qualifications, and operational requirements.

· Conduct toolbox talks and pre-job briefings related to lifting and rigging activities.

· Ensure that rigging personnel understand and follow approved lifting procedures and safe working practices.

· Monitor the performance and competency of riggers and provide guidance where required.

Certification & Competency Verification

· Verify the authenticity and validity of all rigger, lifting, and related competency certificates before personnel are deployed.

· Ensure that certificates are issued by recognized and legitimate training or certification bodies.

· Check certificate validity, expiry dates, certificate numbers, issuing organizations, and supporting documentation.

· Maintain accurate records of personnel certifications and competency documentation.

· Ensure that only appropriately qualified and certified personnel are permitted to perform rigging and lifting activities.

· Report any suspected fraudulent, invalid, expired, or unverifiable certificates to management immediately.

· Support periodic re-verification of certificates and competency records to ensure continued compliance.

Lifting Equipment & Rigging Gear

· Inspect lifting and rigging equipment before use and ensure that equipment is fit for purpose.

· Ensure that slings, shackles, lifting accessories, and other rigging equipment have appropriate identification, inspection, and certification.

· Maintain proper records of inspections, certifications, defects, and equipment status.

· Ensure defective, damaged, expired, or uncertified lifting equipment is immediately removed from service.

· Coordinate periodic inspection and certification of lifting equipment as required.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

· Ensure strict compliance with company HSE policies, lifting procedures, and industry standards.

· Conduct and participate in risk assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), toolbox talks, and pre-task meetings.

· Promote a strong safety culture among rigging and lifting personnel.

· Ensure exclusion zones and appropriate control measures are established during lifting operations.

· Monitor compliance with safe lifting practices and ensure that personnel use the required PPE.

· Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and equipment defects in accordance with company procedures.

· Ensure compliance with client and regulatory requirements in Mozambique.

Documentation & Reporting

· Maintain accurate records of lifting operations, inspections, equipment certifications, and personnel competency records.

· Prepare daily and periodic reports on rigging and lifting activities.

· Maintain an updated register of rigger qualifications and certification expiry dates.

· Report any certification discrepancies, safety concerns, equipment defects, or operational issues to management.

· Support audits and client inspections related to lifting and rigging activities.

Experience & Education Requirements

· Diploma, Certificate, or relevant technical qualification in Rigging, Lifting Operations, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

· Minimum 5 years of experience in rigging and lifting operations, preferably within the Oil & Gas, drilling, construction, mining, or heavy lifting industries.

· Previous experience in a Rigger Supervisor / Rigging Supervisor position is strongly preferred.

· Demonstrated experience supervising riggers and coordinating lifting operations.

· Strong knowledge of rigging equipment, lifting accessories, lifting plans, load handling, and safe lifting practices.

· Knowledge of relevant lifting and rigging standards and HSE requirements.

· Valid and verifiable rigging/lifting certifications are mandatory.

· Proven ability to verify and maintain personnel competency and certification records.

· Fluent English — both written and spoken — is mandatory.

· Good communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced Oil & Gas operational environment.

· Ability to work effectively with multicultural teams and client representatives.

· Must be based in or willing to work in Pemba, Mozambique.
