The Department provides a vibrant identity for ophthalmology at AKU that delivers subspecialized and multidisciplinary services integrated with an enabling environment that supports outstanding teaching/learning, research, partnerships, and leadership development. We currently have an ophthalmology residency program, vitreoretinal fellowship program and allied health training program (in progress).
Current Faculty work closely with a team of over 40 specialized medical staff, nurses, optometrists, technicians, technologists and others to offer comprehensive eye care for adults and children. These include but are not limited to surgery for cataract, corneal transplant, retinal disorders, glaucoma, orbital and facial reconstruction, refractive, squint, and ophthalmic tumors. Most of these services are delivered through the outpatient consulting clinics and/or day care surgery. There is a highly enabling environment for interdepartmental collaborations to support education, research and leadership development.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Sr. Instructor/ Assistant Professor within the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. We are seeking an outstanding subspecialist/ fellowship-trained clinician in Paediatric Ophthalmology to lead and strengthen paediatric ophthalmology services within the Department. The individual will work as an independent consultant and contribute to the development of clinical, academic, and research activities.
Responsibilities:
- Devote a portion of time to teaching and mentoring learners (UGME, PGME and fellows as appropriate)
- Support continuing Medical Education (CME) activities and allied health training
- Produce quality research outcomes in terms of publications
- Develop and implement a Paediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship Program in collaboration with the department and relevant stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Completed postgraduate training and FCPS, FRCOphth, American Board or equivalent with subsequent clinical and teaching experience.
- Subspecialist fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology from a reputable training institution.
- Registered or be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional conduct that fosters a high-performance team culture.
- Should have at least three to four years of experience in the field.
