About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

We are looking for an experienced leader with strong communication, interpersonal, and operational skills who can build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams. Reporting to the Superintendent, Mine Maintenance, the Senior Supervisor will lead and support a team of Supervisors and skilled tradespeople across Mine Maintenance.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading large teams in a mining, mobile equipment, oil and gas, heavy industrial, or similarly complex operating environment. They will provide direction, coaching, and support to Supervisors while ensuring maintenance crews have the leadership, resources, and operational support needed to execute work safely and effectively.
This is a visible and hands-on leadership role. The Senior Supervisor will be expected to build trust, develop people, establish clear expectations, and foster a positive and accountable work environment where Supervisors and tradespeople can perform at their best. Strong collaboration with various stakeholders will be essential to achieving safe and reliable equipment performance.
The role requires strong operational knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to make timely decisions in a dynamic environment where priorities can change quickly. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy while maintaining a strong focus on safety, people, equipment reliability, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide courageous safety leadership and ensure activities meet Teck standards, the BC Mines Act, environmental requirements, and site procedures.
- Lead, coach, and develop Maintenance Supervisors, setting clear expectations, managing performance, and building leadership capability within the department.
- Lead large skilled trades teams across maintenance crews, fostering a safe, respectful, accountable, and high-performing work environment.
- Lead the safe and effective execution of maintenance activities across the mine mobile equipment fleet to support equipment availability, reliability, and production requirements.
- Coordinate maintenance priorities with Mine Operations, Planning, Engineering, Reliability, and other site functions to support safe and reliable operations.
- Drive continuous improvement and operational performance through effective communication, accountability, coaching, and engagement with Supervisors and tradespeople.
- Support maintenance planning, budgeting, and resource allocation to improve equipment reliability, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
- Administer collective agreement requirements and maintain effective labour relations, ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
- Provide operational leadership during changing priorities and critical equipment events, applying sound judgment to resolve issues and maintain safe, reliable operations.
Qualifications
- Valid BC Mine Shiftboss – Open Pit Certificate is required.
- Class 5 Driver’s License, or equivalent.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive operational and leadership experience, preferably in a large-scale open-pit mining environment, with proven experience leading Maintenance Supervisors and large skilled trades teams.
- Experience with MineStar, Autonomous Haulage Systems, continuous improvement, or reliability programs is an asset.
- Experience in a unionized environment and administering a collective agreement is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience leading mobile equipment or heavy equipment maintenance operations in mining, oil and gas, heavy industrial, construction, or a similarly complex operating environment.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance execution, equipment reliability, safety systems, risk management, and applicable regulatory requirements, with the ability to make sound operational decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, including coaching and developing Supervisors, managing performance, fostering accountability, and building effective relationships across trades, operations, and technical teams.
- Strong digital literacy and experience with maintenance, fleet management, or operational systems.
Pay Range: CAD $122,000 - $151,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Working Conditions:
- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
