Geo Engineering Engineer, UG Geotech

Provide geotechnical recommendation, support and services to GBC Mine Operations by performing ground inspection, collecting geotechnical/geological information and assessing ground condition in order to achieve the safe and efficient mines operations.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  1. Actively perform ground inspection, monitoring, and geotechnical/geological data collection to review ground support in development, rehab, and preventive support maintenance (PSM) at production area against stress created by mining activities (both abutment and load static stress). Communicate findings effectively and propose an improvement to the existing practices or standard procedures in order to manage the ground support hazards in GBC mines operations based on geotechnical perspective
  2. Design ground support for rehab and development drift based on ground condition assessments for existing or new development drifts both at production and at high occupancy facilities in order to achieve production target safely. It requires also providing an alert system for unstable geotechnical condition.
  3. Plan, monitor and assess cave propagation by continuously monitoring of surface subsidence, installation of TDR instruments and conducting cave inspection. It requires a robust and comprehensive TDR and open hole drilling plans by close communication with related parties for allocating rigs in timely manner.
  4. Provide and communicate actively on geotechnical hazards and forthcoming impacts for development and operation of critical mine facilities, such as ventilation raises, ore passes and other production facilities.
  5. Provide of routine monitoring and attend regular meeting and discussion of wet muck hazards in GBC Mine operations. Work closely with Geotechnical Superintendent to provide wet muck hazard map and communicate with stake holder. Drafting an official report to Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (DEMR).
  6. Develop skills of subordinates following plans.
  7. Meet the PTFI Safety and Environmental Programs and standards.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Graduate in Geological, Mining or Civil Engineering with 3 years of experience in the Geotechnical aspect of Underground mine industry and related field.

Core Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Characters).

  • Have knowledge of basic theory of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering from university course work.
  • Be able to communicate with field people, lead subordinates, develop or train subordinates and must be energetic & willing to work in the field.
