Faculty Position in Philosophy, Open Rank

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) invites applications for one (1) open-rank core faculty position in Philosophy.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in philosophy, or a closely related field, and will have a research focus in one or more of the following areas: non-Western philosophy (especially Islamic and Arabic philosophy, African/Africana philosophy, Asian philosophy), Continental philosophy, philosophy of science (broadly construed), philosophy of social science, or applied ethics. They will contribute to the foundational and upper-level offerings of the Culture and Politics (CULP) major and to the BSFS core curriculum and must be able to teach a course in Political and Social Thought.

Qualifications

  • Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. in philosophy, or a closely related field in the humanities or social sciences.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with teaching competence in political philosophy.
  • Scholarly expertise in areas that complement the Culture and Politics curriculum is desirable.
  • We particularly seek scholars with dynamic and innovative research trajectories.
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in research as well as teaching.

Academic Environment and Faculty Support

Faculty typically teach two courses (or 6 credit hours) per semester (a 2-2 load), supported by best-in-class instructional infrastructure.
