Principal Engineer, NPI, Opto-mechanical

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Customer order and cost evaluation, samples production (40%)

• Obtain the customers product application information via Sales or Internet, know about the specific requirement from customers; Familiar with manufacturing process and cost model with respect to the similar products; Provide feasible process design and cost information such as accurate yield rate, labor cost and so on.
• Based on the technical evaluation for customer’s requirement specifications, utilize company’s CMP system to do overall cost evaluation on customer orders after sufficient communications with both customers and sales. The cost should include raw materials, special tooling and fixtures, special consumables, etc.
• Timely reply to the customer’s inquiry; for those products hard to manufacture or over the company’s capabilities, if the customer still requires, summarize the internal evaluation proposals and provide the best alternative to the customer.
• For those products totally out of the company’s capabilities or huge demand from the customer, which will bring significant impact to the company, it is essential to organize the whole company’s technical power to do risk evaluation, technical review and development planning.
• Instruct and train the operators to make them fully understand the process requirements, track the process so that the quality can fulfill the customer’s requirements

Product Design (25%)

• Communicate with customers and market research, understand the final application demand of customers.
• According to the customer request, provide the design plan for customer.
• Keep communication with customers, improve the design and meet the customers’ requirement for performance and cost.
• According to the product characteristics and internal processing capabilities, draft and revise process files to regulate the processes in production. The documents include SOP, work process sheet, standard parameter sheet, process flow sheet, etc.

Technical Support (20%)

• Technical support for the customer, production line, sales department and supplier
• Follow and know about the customer’s use of the product; organize the team to timely solve the quality and technical problems from the customer, and provide the comprehensive and professional FA report
• Focus on the market application, enrich the industry knowledge, and accumulate the market information
• Positive, active, efficient, professional services for customers

Complete other tasks assigned by superiors, and provide technical support and services for other functions (15%)

• Cooperate with quality engineers to improve testing methods, measurement instruments and solve customer complaints
• Provide technical support and services in conjunction with sales, quality assurance, procurement, production, planning and other departments;
• Guide and train employees to fully understand the process requirements, and track product processing in real time to ensure quality meets customer requirements;
• Fully understand the needs of the tasks assigned by the superiors, draft plans and strive to complete them on time, summarize the reports in case of any problems, and actively achieve the goals

Education Requirement

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is required. Major in Physics, Applied Physics, optics, optical communication, Materials Science & Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• An advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) is an advantage.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum relevant experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree: 9 years
  • Master’s degree: 7 years
  • Ph.D.: 4 years;
• Experience in NPI or Engineering within an international manufacturing environment. Experience in optics, optical communications, lasersor optoelectronics is preferred
• Proven track record of continuous improvement
• Familiar with office software and graphics software such as CAD, Solidworks
• Familiar with the characteristics, technical difficulties and applications of the key product in optical, optical communication and laser related area
• Strong customer-oriented awareness and good planning and organizational skills
• Ability to comprehensively analyze and solve problems, with innovative ideas and strong sense of teamwork
• Professional and Technical knowledge and skills.
• Proficient in English for technical and business communication
• Speaking Chinese is a plus
