Grounds and Facilities Maintenance Person

The position

Duties include:

  • Perform routine repairs and maintenance across the school.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify and address issues proactively.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and service providers as needed.
  • Maintain school grounds, including gardens, pathways, and outdoor play areas.
  • Support event setup and general logistics (e.g., moving furniture, setting up rooms).
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
  • Clean and maintain work machinery.
  • Portering duties as required.
  • Work in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act and requirements including maintenance of a safe work environment; safe storage and handling of chemicals, fertilisers and fuels; bring to appropriate attention any safety hazards; manage equipment records; and maintain tools and equipment for repair services (as per manufacturer's service manual).
  • Maintain effective communication with all members of staff, students, parents and suppliers.
  • Any other duties as required by the Director (Property and Facilities) and COO.

To note: It is the nature of the work at CGGS that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and varied. All staff members are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises and undertake tasks that are not specifically covered in the position description.

Skills and experience

  • Relevant qualifications (Trades certificate/ Horticulture certificate etc) highly desirable
  • Background working in trades
  • Experience working in School/landscaping environment desirable
  • Full driver’s licence. Light rigid driver’s licence would be an advantage (desired)
  • Commitment to workplace safety and child-safe practices
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
