Job Description
The Edge AI Engineer is responsible for integrating, optimizing, and deploying AI models on constrained edge platforms, ensuring performance, safety, scalability, and regulatory compliance within medical-device environments.. The role harnesses data-driven insights and AI-enabled tools to enhance code quality and performance, leveraging customer knowledge to refine the development process. The role establishes quality goals and development practices within the team, fostering continuous improvement and excellence in software development through meticulous standards and methodologies. The role coordinates code reviews, offering constructive feedback to colleagues and ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices to uphold code quality. The role champions new technologies for optimization, demonstrating deep understanding of product usage scenarios, user needs and is able to create frictionless flows for customer usage, exerting influence on senior managers and mentoring junior team members.
Your role:
- Optimizes AI models for deployment on target hardware platforms using technologies such as TensorRT, OpenVINO, ONNX Runtime, and TensorFlow Lite.
- Performs on-target profiling and optimization of memory usage, latency, throughput, power consumption, and thermal behavior.
- Integrates AI inference pipelines into product software architectures while ensuring reliability, maintainability, and traceability.
- Contributes to AI-specific verification, validation, risk management, and QMS deliverables required for regulated medical-device development.
- Collaborates with software, systems, quality, cybersecurity, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure safe and effective deployment of AI-enabled features.
- Serves as an expert in their field of work, recognized for their deep knowledge and skills within the Business Group, provides strategic insights and guidance to influence software development practices.
- Utilizes advanced analytical skills to address complex requests efficiently, applies conceptual thinking to develop innovative solutions and strategies based on limited information.
- Contributes to development, modification, and execution of organizational policies impacting immediate operations of function/region/business and potentially organization wide.
- Keeps abreast of technical knowledge by implementing state-of-the-art programming techniques and development tools, participating in educational opportunities, communities of practice, and maintaining personal networks.
- Develops software APIs and plug-and-play components for integrating the latest AI models seamlessly into products and solutions, ensuring compatibility and scalability across various platforms and environments.
- Leverages data-driven insights and AI-enabled tools to improve code quality and performance, using customer knowledge to enhance the development process.
- Sets quality goals and development practices with the team, driving continuous improvement and excellence in software development through rigorous standards and methodologies.
- Coordinates code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices to maintain code quality.
- Analyzes and optimizes application performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks to enhance user experience and system efficiency, ensuring the software meets performance benchmarks.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and QA engineers, to define, design, and ship new features, ensuring alignment with project goals and user needs.
You're the right fit if you have:
- Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with Bachelor's OR Minimum 3 years of experience with Master's in areas such as Software Development, Software Design and Architecture, Testing and Quality Assurance or equivalent.
Must-Have Skills:
- Development and deployment of AI models on edge or resource-constrained platforms
- Python with PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Deployment and integration of machine-learning inference pipelines
- Model optimization and on-target performance profiling
- Embedded or resource-constrained platforms
- MLOps (ClearML), CI/CD, and reproducible AI lifecycle management
- AI verification, validation, and risk management in regulated medical-device development
- Experience with Signal Processing and Image Processing
Preferred Skills:
- IEC 62304 and ISO 14971 awareness
- Software design and API integration
- Software test automation or test-driven development
- Agile development
- Version control, code reviews, and continuous improvement
Compensation & benefits
Doing meaningful work should come with fair, transparent rewards. The base salary range for this role is € 78,187 –€ 130,312 . We determine pay within the range using objective factors, like the skills the role requires, your relevant experience and the responsibility you'll have in this role, alongside internal equity and local market considerations.
This role is eligible for 3% annual bonus with your rewards linked to KPIs and the company’s performance. How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
