Job Description Details

Seeking a strong thought leader to lead and manage a world-class Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Bus Product Line Organization. This leader will shape the future, leading a team focused on standard GNC products, technologies, processes, line of business (LOB) support, and advancing Enterprise and Engineering Strategic Threads. This position will oversee and own design authority for all standard GNC products, as well as ensure the technical integrity of LOB/Program design baselines, incorporation of best practices, model-based engineering, and common design. This position will set the overall strategy for Space Systems GNC products for the bus product line.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Planning and management of engineering critical skills to support LOB/programs.
• Providing oversight to the development and insertion of Common/Standard Products, including Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for new product line programs.
• Owning the Design Authority for the GNC talent center bus product line and supporting tools.
• Driving and executing active knowledge sharing through career planning and technical knowledge management, ensuring domain expertise across the entire team.
• Driving process and tool development/deployment, resolving critical technical issues, supporting new business initiatives, and ensuring standard technical processes are used on programs.
• Managing staffing requirements, planning job assignments and rotations, and conducting staff assessments.
• Collaborating to develop our GNC roadmap and supporting our IRAD investment strategy.
• Supporting proposals, Red Teams, and Independent Assessments (INARs) as required.
• Ensuring compliance with command media and dissemination of lessons learned for mission success.
• Organizing, motivating, and leading groups of engineering personnel, demonstrating in-depth GNC technical skills focused on mission success.
• Willingness to go on special assignments to solve LOB problems, including working on or leading Independent Review Teams (IRTs) and task forces.
• Managing subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions.
• Some travel (roughly 10%) will be expected.

Successful applicants would generally possess 12+ years of related experience and may have a post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline (BS degree in aerospace engineering, controls engineering or related technical discipline)

Manages the design, development, implementation, verification and testing of algorithms to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations and control laws to achieve a desired position in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles and/or spacecraft. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions.

Basic Qualifications

Skill Requirements:

• Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities, showcasing the ability to lead diverse, cross-functional engineering teams, foster a collaborative culture, and build strong professional relationships across the organization.
• Proven execution in financial and programmatic management, applying Cost Account Management (CAM) principles, techniques, and processes to oversee technical scope, schedules, and budgets effectively on mid-size to large programs.
• Extensive domain expertise in Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) engineering within spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, or upper-stage environments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the end-to-end GNC lifecycle, including planning, design, development, implementation, verification, and testing of complex GNC algorithms.
• Proficiency in Model-Based Development (MBD) methodologies and their practical application to modern engineering workflows.

Security Clearance / Work Authorization:

• To meet requirements of the program/customer, this position requires the selected employee to be a U.S. Citizen.
• Active Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start, and necessary for consideration
• Top Secret security clearance with adjudicated SCI (i.e. TS/SCI) is required for long term employment on this program.
• Selected candidates must be willing to consent to Polygraph Examination, receiving favorable results, as required by our end customer.

Desired Skills

• Comprehensive domain background in both Spacecraft and Missile GNC, bringing versatile architectural oversight to complex aerospace systems.
• Advanced experience with LM400 and A2100 Spacecraft GNC systems, coupled with a deep understanding of standard bus product lines.
• Proven success in driving cultural transformation and multi-site organizational change, uniting distributed teams across diverse lines of business and operational borders.
• Extensive background in driving standardization, successfully deploying common products, model-based development environments, and unified engineering tools at scale.
• Active commitment to talent development, demonstrated through active mentoring relationships, strategic career planning, and technical knowledge management.
• Strong conceptual and strategic execution skills, with the ability to translate high-level vision and R&D investment roadmaps into actionable business results.
• Active Security Clearance, with the eligibility and ability to obtain an SCI clearance.
• Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Pay Information

GeoZone Definition: GeoZones are geographic groupings created by Lockheed Martin to align compensation ranges with regional labor markets and cost-of-labor differences across the United States. Locations are assigned a Geo Zone based on the primary work location of the role.

• Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 1): $228100.00 - $423700.00

• Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 2): $205300.00 - $381300.00

• Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 3): $182500.00 - $338900.00
  • Includes metropolitan areas such as Dallas–Fort Worth, TX; Orlando, FL; Grand Prairie, TX; Marietta, GA; etc.
