Summary
Under immediate supervision, performs semi-skilled maintenance, oversees crew in the filed and does related work as required.
Examples of duties
Supervises and participates in the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers, Vehicle Operators and Sr. Equipment Operators. Oversees large crews in the collection of brush, leaves and bulky items. Provides instruction to crews, makes and adjusts assignments and inspect work in progress. Does minor vehicle and equipment repairs in the field and provides daily inspections and maintenance of a large number of vehicles. Maintains vehicle records and requisitions necessary parts and materials. Prepares reports, trains and instructs personnel, assist with evaluations and disciplinary actions.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diplomas and considerable experience in semi-skilled maintenance and operation of motorized vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of principles and practices of operations and servicing trucks and related equipment; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operations of various vehicles and equipment. Ability to follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude, ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to assign and supervise the work of others and the ability to prepare simple reports.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting and climbing or balancing; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
