About Plum
Plum is India’s leading employee insurance and health benefits platform, backed by Tiger Global and Peak XV Partners, and today the partner of choice for over 6,000+ corporates across the country — from fast-growing startups to some of India’s largest enterprises.
Healthcare in India is at an inflection point. Medical inflation is running at 2-3x general inflation, and employer health spend is rising sharply year on year. Yet most of that spend continues to flow into reactive insurance claims rather than into anything that meaningfully improves employee health. Forward-looking employers are now demanding more — and Plum is built to deliver it.
About the role
We are looking for a senior clinician to serve as the accountable clinical authority for Plum’s Healthcare business — the leader who defines what good care looks like on our platform, and who ensures we can prove it.
Over the last two years, Plum has built what we believe is the highest-quality virtual primary healthcare product in India — and importantly, the only one that delivers measurably better health outcomes. That business is now expanding rapidly: health checkups and diagnostics, home healthcare, mental health support, and a care orchestration platform that stitches these services into continuous member journeys — combining AI-assisted triage, intelligent orchestration, and nurse-led coordination. Every layer of that system needs a clinician above it. That is this role.
The Medical Director will own clinical outcomes end-to-end: protocols and escalation SOPs across all service lines, the quality and credentialing of our doctor and specialist network, the safety framework for clinical AI and decision support, regulatory compliance (Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020, DPDP Act 2023, ABDM), and the clinical research agenda on Plum’s proprietary health datasets. The role will report to the Head of Healthcare, who owns the overall P&L, and will work closely with the Founders, the care operations and product leaders, and commercial teams.
What you will own
- Define and maintain high standards of care across Plum’s healthcare services, ensuring excellence in clinical outcomes
- Lead the development of protocols and escalation procedures, ensuring they are operational and audit-ready
- Oversee the credentialing and quality of Plum's doctor and specialist network to enhance care delivery
- Collaborate with AI teams to establish a clinical safety framework, ensuring all AI recommendations are rigorously vetted
- Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, serving as the clinical authority during audits
- Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement within the doctor network, driving measurable improvements in consult quality
- Contribute to clinical research initiatives, validating models and studies to support member care and business objectives
What we are looking for
- Expertise in clinical governance systems, ensuring protocols and quality standards are met across service lines
- Proficiency with clinical AI and decision-support systems to assess clinical validity and operating boundaries
- Deep understanding of India's digital health regulatory landscape, including Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020 and the DPDP Act 2023
- Experience in building and managing clinician networks, focusing on quality improvement and performance management
- Exposure to clinical research methodology, ensuring Plum's clinical claims are robust and defensible
- A strong clinical background with an MBBS and MD/DNB, plus over 10 years of experience, including digital health and clinical leadership roles
- Problem-solving skills and a builder's mindset to create and refine clinical governance as a strategic advantage
