Position Summary
Seeking an Intermediate to Advanced Snowflake Administrator
to manage, support, and optimize our Snowflake environment with a strong focus on stability, security, performance, and operational excellence
. This role requires hands-on expertise in account-level administration
, RBAC and permission management
, incident response
, and platform governance
, while ensuring changes are implemented without service disruption and in alignment with uptime SLAs.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, highly detail-oriented, and an effective communicator who can work across technical and business teams. They will be expected to proactively maintain platform health, quickly troubleshoot outages, document administrative processes thoroughly, and stay current with Snowflake releases and feature impacts.
Key Responsibilities
Snowflake Platform Administration
Administer and support the Snowflake platform across environments, including production and non-production.
Perform account-level configuration and administrative changes
with careful planning, validation, and change control to avoid service interruptions.
Manage core Snowflake administrative functions such as:
- Users and roles
- Warehouses
- Resource monitors
- Network policies
- Integrations
- Account parameters
- Security and access controls
- Monitor platform usage, availability, and performance to ensure service reliability and adherence to uptime SLAs.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, stability, and governance within the Snowflake environment.
Access Management and Security
Design, implement, and maintain role-based access control (RBAC)
according to best practices and least-privilege principles.
Manage permissions for databases, schemas, tables, views, stages, warehouses, and other Snowflake objects.
Review and remediate access issues in a timely and controlled manner.
Partner with security, infrastructure, and data teams to ensure administrative practices align with internal controls and compliance expectations.
Conduct periodic audits of access, roles, grants, and inherited permissions.
Incident Management and Operational Support
- Respond to production issues, outages, and service degradation events with urgency and precision.
- Quickly identify root cause, scope of impact, and resolution steps for Snowflake-related incidents.
- Coordinate recovery efforts while minimizing business disruption.
- Communicate incident status, business impact, estimated restoration timelines, and post-resolution updates clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support on-call or after-hours administration as required for critical incidents or planned maintenance activities.
Change Management and Documentation
- Plan and execute platform changes with detailed risk assessment, rollback planning, testing, and stakeholder communication.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation for:
- Administrative procedures
- Environment configurations
- Role hierarchies and permission models
- Incident response steps
- Operational runbooks
- Change records
- Ensure all work reflects strong attention to detail and disciplined operational practices.
Release and Feature Readiness
Stay current on Snowflake releases, new features, deprecations, and administrative impacts
.
Evaluate upcoming Snowflake capabilities for operational readiness, configuration needs, support requirements, and risks.
Recommend and implement administrative best practices based on platform evolution.
Partner with engineering, architecture, and governance teams to assess release impacts before adoption.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work effectively with data engineering, analytics, application teams, security, infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
- Translate technical issues and administrative decisions into clear business-friendly communication.
- Provide guidance on platform administration standards, access models, and operational best practices.
- Support audits, governance reviews, and cross-functional initiatives involving Snowflake.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Several years of experience administering Snowflake
in a large-scale production enterprise environment.
Strong experience with Snowflake account administration
, including security, user management, warehouse management, and platform configuration.
Demonstrated experience managing RBAC
, permissions, and access governance at scale.
Strong understanding of Snowflake architecture and administrative best practices.
Experience supporting highly available data platforms with uptime and SLA expectations.
Proven ability to troubleshoot platform incidents, determine root cause, and drive timely resolution.
Experience with change management processes that minimize risk and avoid service interruption.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and documentation discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with infrastructure, cloud platforms, and enterprise data ecosystems supporting Snowflake.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation using SQL, Python, Shell, or similar tools.
- Experience integrating Snowflake administration with monitoring, alerting, and ticketing processes.
- Understanding of data security, audit controls, and compliance considerations in cloud data platforms.
- Snowflake certifications or other relevant cloud/data platform certifications.
- Experience supporting regulated or mission-critical business environments.
