Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically competent Procurement Engineer to support procurement and supply chain operations for engineered products and services. This role is responsible for sourcing materials and services, managing supplier relationships, evaluating technical and commercial requirements, and ensuring timely material availability to support business and production demands. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical engineering knowledge, procurement experience, and the ability to interpret manufacturing drawings and costing information to make informed sourcing decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the technical specifications, manufacturing requirements, and standards of products and services being procured.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to interpret technical drawings, material specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Review purchase requisitions generated through MRP demand planning and determine procurement requirements.
  • Source materials, components, and services in accordance with technical specifications and procurement guidelines.
  • Conduct inventory redeployment checks and utilize existing inventory where available.
  • Leverage contract pricing agreements and approved suppliers whenever applicable.
  • Request quotations from suppliers, communicate delivery requirements, and evaluate supplier responses for pricing, quality, compliance, and lead times.
  • Apply competitive bidding practices to achieve the best balance of quality, delivery, and total cost of ownership.
  • Analyze manufacturing drawings, cycle times, material requirements, and component costing to support supplier negotiations and sourcing decisions.
  • Create, issue, and manage purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
  • Obtain supplier acknowledgements, monitor delivery schedules, and communicate status updates to relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage purchase order amendments, freight adjustments, and other order changes to ensure accuracy and alignment with business requirements.
  • Utilize MRP/DRP reports to plan and manage material requirements in support of production and operational demands.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely material availability and uninterrupted operations.
  • Act as a liaison between suppliers and Source-to-Pay functions to resolve issues related to purchase order receipts, invoice discrepancies, payment terms, supplier requirements, received-not-vouchered transactions, shipped-not-received items, and import tracking.
  • Participate in supplier performance reviews and maintain strong working relationships with key strategic suppliers.
  • Support supplier base rationalization initiatives in collaboration with Sourcing and Category Management teams.
  • Monitor supplier performance, report non-conformances, and drive corrective actions through resolution.
  • Leverage supplier relationships to improve on-time delivery, support product development initiatives, enhance operational efficiency, and drive overall supplier performance.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities within procurement, sourcing, inventory management, and supplier management processes.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing drawings, material specifications, and mechanical manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, analyze cycle times, and assess component costing.
  • Knowledge of procurement, sourcing, supplier management, and purchase order processes.
  • Experience in supplier negotiations, competitive bidding, and cost optimization.
  • Strong understanding of MRP/DRP planning and inventory management principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work effectively in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Production, Purchasing, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with ERP software, preferably JD Edwards.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing drawings and material specifications.
  • Ability to study and interpret manufacturing drawings, analyze cycle times, and assess costing to support supplier negotiations.
  • Experience in supplier sourcing, RFQ management, quotation evaluation, supplier negotiations, and purchase order management.
  • Experience using MRP/DRP reports for material planning and supply requirement management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, Hindi, and Gujarati.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment and respond quickly to operational requirements.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas parts manufacturing and new product/manufacturing development is advantageous.
