Job Description

About the team and the role

12-month fixed term contract

Our People & Communication team supports the people, systems and processes that keep the airport running, with payroll playing a critical role in ensuring our employees are paid accurately, on time and in line with legislative and Enterprise Agreement requirements.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join us on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role has been created to provide business-as-usual payroll support while our Payroll Manager focuses on a key project.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, taking ownership and working proactively in a complex environment. You'll be responsible for delivering accurate, timely and compliant payroll services, managing payroll queries, reviewing and validating payroll data, and working closely with internal stakeholders and third-party providers to ensure payroll activities are delivered effectively.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to

  • Prepare, process and validate fortnightly and monthly payrolls, including timesheets, payroll adjustments, terminations and other payroll transactions.
  • Process complex payroll matters including parental leave, superannuation, leave reconciliations and payroll adjustments.
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation, Enterprise Agreement provisions and internal policies.
  • Maintain payroll system integrity, HR records, master data and reporting.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee queries.
  • Prepare reconciliations, reports and audit documentation to support compliance requirements.
  • Liaise with People, Finance, Technology teams and external payroll providers to resolve payroll and system-related matters.
  • Support payroll and HRIS testing, upgrades, configuration changes and implementation activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency and controls.

About you

You are an experienced payroll professional with strong technical payroll knowledge and a reputation for accuracy and reliability. You take ownership, work proactively and have a keen eye for detail, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.

You will bring

  • Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a complex environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation and superannuation requirements.
  • Experience interpreting Enterprise Agreements and Award provisions.
  • Experience working with payroll and HRIS systems, with SuccessFactors experience highly regarded.
  • Experience preparing payroll reconciliations, reports and audit documentation.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical payroll deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management and customer service skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll specialist who enjoys working in the detail, thrives in a dynamic environment and takes pride in delivering a high-quality payroll service.
