Tech Lead System Development

About the Role

The R&D Tech Lead System Development is responsible for the coordinated development of automated storage solutions. Within this highly multidisciplinary environment, you ensure a coordinated implementation of structural improvements and new features. You take ownership of system-level technical concepts and drive their successful development across various engineering domains. You serve as the main R&D technical referent for the system platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Development & Architecture: Set technical direction and drive innovation in network architecture, protocols, and cybersecurity practices. Translate complex product and business goals into robust technical solutions.
  • Planning & Execution: Align with peers to establish clear requirements, build structured development plans, and coordinate cross-functional execution to ensure timely feature delivery per the product development process.
  • Validation & Quality: Oversee formal system validation to confirm all technical requirements are met. Lead internal quality reviews, cross-functional project teams, and coordinate product documentation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Take ownership of overall system performance, leading initiatives that prioritize safety, operational efficiency, reliability, and user-friendliness.
  • Product Strategy & Roadmap: Partner with Product Managers and technical peers to build and execute the R&D roadmap for your product line, balancing stakeholder priorities while managing project timelines and budgets.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the primary technical point of contact for neighboring departments, actively collecting operational feedback and maintaining clear communication regarding new developments.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Guide cross-functional project teams, mentor team members in secure development practices, and champion emerging technologies to steer long-term strategy.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on engineering experience within automation or complex system environments.
  • Technical Skills: Background or familiarity with software engineering, machine safety, system configuration, or coding is highly desirable.
  • Mindset & Collaboration: Highly curious about technology, autonomous yet a strong team player, with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Language: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Location: You are based in Belgium and have a valid work permit to work here.
