System Engineer

Your area of work:

• Deutsche Börse Group is an international exchange organisation and market infrastructure provider. Our highly integrated and automated IT solutions form the technological foundation of our business and support reliable access to global capital markets.
• For our Section "Commodities IT", we are looking for a dedicated Senior Systems Engineer to contribute to the engineering, automation and operation of business-critical infrastructure supporting 24/7 commodities services.
• As part of an international and agile engineering team, you will take ownership of infrastructure platforms throughout their lifecycle, working closely with application development, network, storage, database, data centre, security and other technology teams to deliver secure, resilient and highly available services.

Your responsibilities:

• Operate, maintain and continuously improve mission-critical on-premises and cloud infrastructure supporting 24/7 Commodities IT services
• Take technical ownership throughout the infrastructure lifecycle, including implementation, configuration, patching, upgrades, performance optimisation, capacity planning and decommissioning
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, maintenance and operational processes using Ansible, Terraform, Git, Python and Shell scripting
• Develop reusable automation components and self-service capabilities to reduce manual effort and improve consistency and reliability of infrastructure operations
• Implement platform security, system hardening and vulnerability remediation in coordination with Cyber Security and other relevant teams
• Improve monitoring, logging, metrics and alerting capabilities to strengthen observability and enable proactive operations across on-premises and cloud environments
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure incidents, perform technical analysis and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions
• Coordinate infrastructure dependencies and technical activities with application, cloud, network, storage, database, data centre and security teams
• Maintain technical documentation, participate in agile team activities and contribute to the on-call rotation

Your profile:

• University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a comparable discipline, or equivalent professional experience
• At least seven years of hands-on experience in systems or infrastructure engineering, including work in business-critical production environments
• Strong administration and troubleshooting experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Strong experience with virtualised infrastructure, preferably VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter
• Experience automating infrastructure processes using Ansible, Terraform, Git, Python or Shell scripting
• Strong experience operating on-premises infrastructure, together with practical exposure to cloud infrastructure and services
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring, logging, metrics and alerting
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities combined with a structured approach and a strong sense of ownership
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to coordinate technical activities with internal specialist teams
• Professional proficiency in English

Nice to have:

• Experience with Red Hat Satellite and Ansible Automation Platform
• Hands-on experience operating and automating cloud infrastructure
• Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift
• Experience with modern monitoring, logging and observability platforms
• Knowledge of high availability, backup, recovery and disaster recovery concepts
• Practical experience with AI-assisted tools for infrastructure operations, troubleshooting, automation or documentation
• Experience with privileged-access or secrets-management solutions
• Experience working in regulated, highly available or 24/7 environments
• Experience with agile ways of working such as Kanban or Scrum
