Assistant / Associate Professor of Chemistry of Advanced Materials Science

Assistant / Associate Professor of Chemistry in "Advanced Materials Science" (m/f/d)

(full time; 38.5 hrs./week; tenure track)

Your Responsibilities:

The School of Science is particularly interested in candidates with a strong focus on the synthesis and physicochemical characterization of Advanced Materials. In this context, interdisciplinary research is strongly encouraged. Ideal candidates combine experimental and computational approaches. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a cutting-edge externally funded research program at the forefront of the field which complements existing research groups in the School of Science.

The successful candidate will conduct teaching in Chemistry and Advanced Materials Science (lectures and laboratory courses) at the BSc, MSc, and PhD level. They will be expected to take a pivotal role in the new MSc program “Advanced Materials” with their research experience and via the development and implementation of innovative, pedagogically sound approaches to online, hybrid and in-person teaching and learning. This will also include the advising of students on their studies, and the supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD theses and research projects.

The university is highly supportive of junior faculty, providing both formal and informal mentoring, administrative support, as well as a flexible budget for establishing an internationally visible research group. Several opportunities exist to develop multidisciplinary research projects in collaboration with other research groups or our industrial partners and to leverage existing research facilities like a clean room, an X-ray diffractometer and a compute cluster.

Your Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in the field of Chemistry or Materials Science.
  • Strong publication record in relevant international journals
  • Documented research activities in the field of Advanced Materials Science
  • Experience in the acquisition of Third-Party funding
  • Experience in successful teaching in international and diverse environments, with an interest in applying innovative teaching and learning approaches.
  • Intercultural experience and competence
  • Responsible, self-motivated person able to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, the language of instruction and communication on campus
  • Ideally, the successful candidate should be eligible for an ERC starting grant (assistant level) or an ERC consolidator grant (associate level).

The position offered is tenure track, with review of performance after a first contract (assistant level) of three and a second contract after another three years. Successful evaluation leads to permanence and typically promotion to associate professor level. At the associate level, the position is immediately permanent.
