Naval Engineer – Defence Programs

ARQUIMEA ADVANCED SYSTEMS develops safer and more reliable defense systems through technology, including unmanned aerial systems (UAVs), sensing systems, command and control software, and aiming systems.

Main function and scope:

  • Design and development of small and medium size USVs and UUVs, including hull, mechanical design, hydrodynamic design and hydrodynamic analysis

Key Accountabilities:

  • Design and validate motorized unmanned vessel and unmanned submarine concepts, including hull structure, propulsion systems, sensors and onboard integration.
  • Design and validate navigation and control algorithms.
  • Define and supervise the execution of technical documentation: drawings, specifications, technical reports, and interface documents; cooperating with Production department for products industrialization.
  • Coordinate technical activities with internal departments (engineering, production, procurement, quality) and external stakeholders.
  • Support activities, including trials, testing, and acceptance procedures with partners.
  • Promote technical excellence and innovation within naval projects.

Required experience and candidate profile:

  • Master’s degree in Naval Engineering, with background in naval autonomous systems or similar.
  • 8 years of experience.
  • Desirable previous experience in naval autonomous systems.
  • Desirable previous experience in the defence sector.
  • Proven experience in defence or dual-use naval projects is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and spoken) is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Specific Knowledge:

  • Proficient in naval CAD and design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, SolidWorks).
  • Expertise in structural simulation and numerical modeling (FEM), including isotropic and orthotropic materials, as well as non-linear analysis (e.g., buckling).
  • Proficient in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with experience in viscous flow analysis using industry-standard software (e.g., ANSYS CFX, Fluent).
  • Strong knowledge of potential flow theory and seakeeping simulation utilizing specialized maritime tools (e.g., ANSYS AQWA, Orcaflex).
  • Familiarity with autonomous naval systems and emerging maritime technologies.
  • Knowledge of naval manufacturing processes and techniques.
  • Ability to prepare and review complex technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with a proactive and structured approach.
  • Familiarity with the defence sector is desirable.
