The overall function of this position is to ensure that state roads are maintained in accordance with DOTD standards. This position is located in District 03 of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision, and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Examples of duties

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR

Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Supervises asphalt roadway repairs including patching, leveling, overlays, bump removal, and pothole repair.
  • Oversees shoulder maintenance such as reshaping, restoring with asphalt or aggregate, and vegetation control including mowing, tree/brush removal, herbicide spraying, and trimming.
  • Supervises concrete roadway repairs including patching, leveling, and fixing blow-ups and joints.
  • Directs intersection cleaning, litter pickup, work-zone traffic control, and equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Leads crews during emergency conditions such as snow/ice control, high-water sign placement, debris removal, and spill cleanup.
  • Completes daily reports, conducts evaluations, approves leave, assists with accident reports/payroll, trains staff, and fills in for supervisors when needed.
  • May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

License Required: Louisiana Class "A" CDL required prior to being appointed to this position.
