Learning Strategist

Objective

The Department of Educational Services (DES) at St. George’s University (SGU) is seeking a candidate for a faculty position at the level of Instructor to serve as a member of the Learning Strategist team based at the Northumbria University (NU) Campus, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. In this position your role is to provide individual and group instruction on effective study strategies and techniques for answering multiple-choice exam questions and preparing for cumulative exams. The faculty member in this role will make a significant contribution to LSU’s mission while also gaining valuable skills and experience to support their own professional development.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and deliver targeted instruction sessions-both individually and in groups-focused on effective strategies for studying and answering multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
  • Design and implement cumulative exam preparation workshops, providing students with guidance on time management and test-taking techniques to enhance overall exam readiness.
  • Introduce/ Demonstrate test-taking strategies for university and national standardized exams, such as the USMLE; learning styles assessments and applications.
  • Consult with students individually, and in groups, to identify problems with their study approach and to help them develop more efficient and effective strategies.
  • Be informed of and skilled in research and techniques relating to improving time management; approaches to learning; memorizing; building long-term memory; integration of content; test preparation; multiple-choice.
  • Document student meetings, progress and plans into the student support database (Insight).
  • Develop presentations, workshops, handouts and online resources to support student learning and enhance the academic performance of all students at SGU on the NU campus.
  • Work on special projects and tasks, including possibly teaching, as requested by the Associate Director of DES and/or by the Chair of DES.

  • Work with faculty, staff, and students in a congenial and professional manner and maintain confidentiality.
  • Cognizant of his/her/their role in projecting a positive image of SGU and DES.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development as an individual and with the learning strategies team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A relevant MD, MBBS and experience directly related to the enhancement of student learning skills.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom
