Camps Supervisor

We are currently seeking a Camps Supervisor to join our Camps team in a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Simberi Island, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Camps Superintendent, this role leads camp administration, accommodation and laundry personnel, and camp maintenance staff, ensuring efficient camp operations and compliance with company standards.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Oversee the daily operation of camp facilities.
  • Manage camp booking systems in conjunction with employee rosters and flight schedules using Inflight.
  • Ensure camp ablutions, drainage systems, laundry facilities, recreation areas, dining areas, rooms, insect screening, and balconies remain clean, tidy, and fully functional.
  • Coordinate maintenance of camp facilities, including power and water supply systems, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure camp security systems and processes operate effectively.
  • Manage waste disposal and environmental practices in accordance with company standards.
  • Carry out additional operational duties as required.

Scheduling Accountabilities

  • Promote and adhere to company methodologies, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Interpret relevant legislation, government standards, and agreements, providing recommendations and identifying risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor and audit work quality across the department.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and company standards through training, development, and leadership by example.
  • Coordinate and oversee development projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and according to quality standards.
  • Complete administration functions and reporting requirements efficiently and accurately.
  • Identify training needs through consultation with employees and the Training Department.
  • Facilitate training programs to ensure staff competency within their designated roles.
  • Participate in company training and development initiatives.
  • Maintain safety and operational standards, including the correct operation of equipment and machinery.
  • Record and report unsafe practices, incidents, near misses, and hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate safety initiatives and performance statistics regularly to team members.
  • Support environmentally sustainable practices that protect Simberi Island's fauna, flora, freshwater resources, and marine environment.
  • Contribute to community development and company-supported initiatives.

People Accountabilities

  • Maximise workforce capability through effective supervision, training, and development.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentoring, and technical support to staff.
  • Ensure team performance aligns with business objectives and operational plans.
  • Conduct performance and development reviews for direct reports.
  • Manage performance, disciplinary matters, and recognition programs within the team.
  • Promote and demonstrate safe work practices and a strong safety culture.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and service-oriented team environment.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Certificate III in Hospitality or equivalent Tourism and Hospitality qualification.
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working with bulk food suppliers, including planning, procurement, inventory management, and production requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and develop national and local employees.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Team-oriented approach with a proven ability to achieve operational outcomes.
  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara Values and Code of Conduct.

Desirable

  • Ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Minimum two (2) years' supervisory experience.
