IT Administrator
- Castor Ships S.A.
- Kifisiá, Greece
- €30,000 – €40,000
THE ROLE
Castor Ships S.A. is seeking a hands-on I.T. Administrator to provide front-line I.T. and telecommunications support to an assigned group of vessels across the fleet. Your core function is to keep each of your assigned vessels connected, operational, and well-supported — monitoring shipboard I.T. and communication systems, resolving vessel support requests, and coordinating with telecom providers to maintain reliable ship-to-shore connectivity. This is a practical, ownership-driven role: you are the primary point of contact for the vessels assigned to you and are accountable for the day-to-day availability of their I.T. and communication systems, working alongside the wider I.T. Department and reporting to the I.T. Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the primary I.T. point of contact for an assigned portfolio of vessels, owning the availability and performance of their I.T. and communication systems
- Monitor connectivity, bandwidth usage, and system health across your assigned vessels, responding proactively to outages, degradations, and service alerts
- Log, prioritize, and resolve support requests from vessels across hardware, software, email, and business applications within agreed response times
- Coordinate with telecommunication service providers (VSAT, Starlink, Fleet Broadband, and 4G/LTE carriers) to provision, activate, troubleshoot, and restore vessel connectivity, and manage airtime plans and service tickets through to resolution
- Track provider performance against agreed service levels, benchmark providers and their solutions on cost, coverage, throughput, and support quality, and recommend preferred options for newly acquired or newly assigned vessels
- Report I.T. KPIs for your assigned vessels — connectivity uptime, incident volumes and resolution times, recurring faults, and data consumption — to the I.T. Manager
- Monitor I.T. and communication spend for your assigned vessels — airtime, subscriptions, hardware, and software — against budget, flagging variances and cost-saving opportunities
- Administer vessel-side infrastructure and the shore-to-ship services it depends on — onboard servers, network equipment, VPN tunnels, and Microsoft 365 accounts for vessel users
- Maintain accurate records of each assigned vessel's I.T. and communication assets, subscriptions, configurations, and support history
- Propose improvements to vessel infrastructure — capacity, resilience, security, and equipment lifecycle replacement — with costs and expected benefits, and raise the resulting purchase requests in coordination with the Purchasing Department
- Attend assigned vessels based on an annual schedule, delivery or take-over, and major system upgrades, to install, service, test, and commission onboard I.T. and communication equipment
- As a secondary duty, assist shore-based office users upon request — occasionally and subject to your vessel workload and the availability of the shore I.T. team
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related technical field
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on I.T. administration or support experience in the maritime industry
- Practical experience with vessel or remote-site connectivity — VSAT, Starlink, Fleet Broadband, and 4G/LTE solutions — including provisioning and troubleshooting with service providers
- Solid working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and VPN connectivity, with the ability to diagnose connectivity issues remotely
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Windows Server AD.
- Hands-on experience supporting end users through a helpdesk / ticketing system, with strong troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills
- Familiarity with I.T. hardware setup, configuration, and commissioning, including servers, network equipment, and communication terminals
- Strong coordination and vendor-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple providers and service requests simultaneously
- Excellent organizational skills and a customer-focused, ownership-driven approach to supporting remote users.
