Social Care Worker

Location: Dublin

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

The primary aim is to provide interventions necessary to address the young person’s issues and the issues preventing them from living at home. The aim is to provide a therapeutic care placement to the young people who most often present with emotional or behavioural difficulties and cannot live with their own families.

What you will do:

  • Work in line with Focus Ireland’s mission, values, policies, and procedures, contributing positively as part of the residential care team.
  • Support young people in a residential setting, promoting their safety, wellbeing, development, and positive outcomes.
  • Act as a Key Worker for designated young people, building effective relationships and coordinating supports with relevant external agencies.
  • Develop, implement, and review individual care plans and placement plans, ensuring accurate documentation and progress monitoring.
  • Provide trauma-informed support to young people, including those presenting with challenging behaviours and complex needs.
  • Advocate on behalf of young people in relation to social work, aftercare, education, training, health, legal, and other support services.
  • Promote the physical, emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual wellbeing, rights, and responsibilities of each young person.
  • Maintain positive engagement with families, social workers, and external stakeholders to support the needs and goals of young people.
  • Ensure all records, reports, and documentation are maintained in accordance with statutory, regulatory, safeguarding, and health and safety requirements.
  • Encourage and facilitate the participation of young people in decisions affecting their lives, both individually and within the wider service.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, reviews, training, and professional development activities, supporting continuous service improvement.
  • Comply with health and safety standards, undertake additional duties as required, and participate in a 24/7 seven-day roster system.

What you will need:

  • A Third Level qualification at degree level in the area of social care i.e. youth work, social studies, addiction, psychology etc and/or be a CORU registered Social Care Worker
  • Full clean driving license.
  • Proven direct work experience in a social care setting at a social care level or equivalent.
  • Experience of supporting marginalized clients/groups preferably adolescents.
  • A working knowledge and insight into the social issues (e.g. substance abuse) that affect young people, in particular young people, who have or are experiencing trauma and attachment issues.
  • Ability to manage and support young people in crisis who present with challenging behaviors based on the values and principles of best practice in Focus Ireland.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection.
  • Working knowledge of the national standards for children’s residentials.
