WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Senior Analyst - Portfolio Reconciliation at Principal, you will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our portfolio reconciliations. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining flawless reconciliation processes while collaborating with various partners. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Conduct medium-level account reconciliations centered on Market Value Reconciliations; pinpoint and fix issues related to data, trades, and reconciliation differences strictly following policy and client guidelines.
- Prepare clear, timely reconciliation reports; keep control evidence aligned with internal policies and audit standards.
- Work together with colleagues from various departments, Operations (senior staff), Information Technology (IT), Trade Support, custodians,Brokers and portfolio managers—to gather information, address problems, and avoid repeated occurrences.
- Resolve team questions and assist with review tasks; share expertise and help colleagues to promote consistency and quality.
- Acquire product and process understanding across Principal Global Investors (PGI), including inputs, dependencies, and data flows; apply insights to increase break resolution efficiency.
KEY REPONSIBILITIES:
Your main duties will include:
- Identify and resolve client data, trade, and reconciliation breaks. Prepare reports and maintain control evidence according to internal policy and client requirements. Collaborate with Operations leadership, IT, Trade Support, custodians,Brokers and portfolio managers to remove blockers and prevent issues from happening again. Troubleshoot team questions and perform review-related tasks. 50%
- Ensure assigned accounts are finalized accurately and on schedule. Conduct detailed research on any differences found. Keep a comprehensive understanding of inputs, dependencies, and data transfers among systems and custodians. Foster effective communication with internal and external contacts to facilitate quick resolution.35%
- Gain insight into PGI products, team methods, and client demands through independent study, training courses, and participation in regular investment operations tasks.10%
- Continuously improve break resolution– Broaden understanding of financial markets and security/asset-class data; use insights to proactively adopt more effective methods for resolving breaks.5%
Qualifications
WHO YOU ARE:
We are looking for someone who is dedicated and driven to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Education & experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business. 5 to 7 years of experience in investment or mutual fund operations or a related field.
- Domain knowledge: Good understanding of capital markets and investment operations; proven exposure to asset management reconciliation.
- Core capabilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with Operations, IT, Trade Support, custodians,Brokers and portfolio managers.
- Provide timely, polite, and high-quality service while maintaining reasonable costs. Act ethically by following laws, regulations, and company policies such as the Corporate Code of Ethics, employee handbook, and compliance and operations procedures.
SKILLS THAT HELP YOU TO STAND OUT:
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Practical experience in asset management reconciliations, including Market Value Reconciliations and break investigation.
- Ability to interpret data flows and dependencies across custodian, trade support, and portfolio/accounting systems; strong documentation rigor.
- Relationship-building with internal/external collaborators to accelerate issue resolution and drive continuous improvement.This job reports to Operations Leader.
- Proficiency with tools/technologies: Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivots), SharePoint; reconciliation platform (g., DUCO/TLM) custodian portals, and trade support/portfolio accounting systems.
