Serve as the Engineering Department's senior representative at site during construction, commissioning and start-up phases, acting as the principal focal point for field engineering matters. Provide leadership and coordination of site-based engineering activities, ensuring timely resolution of engineering design issues, effective management of field engineering queries and engineering changes, coordination of supplier and discipline engineering support, and maintenance of accurate engineering records and as-built documentation throughout project execution.
Support the Construction Manager and Project Manager with the formulation and implementation of the overall Construction Plan, developing a work packaging strategy and performing those activities needed to manage sub-contractors, construct the facility and pre-commission it for startup. Involved in every stage, from initiation through commissioning and startup of a project.
Lead constructability input to engineering teams by optimizing construction knowledge and experience to reduce construction costs; improve quality, safety and productivity; shorten construction schedules; and reduce or eliminate construction inefficiencies.
Provide construction technical support to the client and the Wood engineering team, acting as a technical authority on the construction site. Provide guidance to project controls in developing the build sequence/construction schedule and proactively risk managing of the schedule. Provides input to the contracting strategy and during bid clarification process.
Act as team lead in the constructability team, overseeing conversion of engineering designs into construction workpacks and directing work of others. Accountable for the delivery of construction deliverables to the required technical standards to support and facilitate site construction activities.
- Act as the Engineering Department's senior representative on the construction site and primary point of contact for field engineering matters between the site, project management team, home office engineering, client and contractors.
- Lead and supervise discipline engineers assigned to site, including coordination of specialist vendor and supplier engineers to support construction, commissioning and start-up activities.
- Establish and manage the site engineering function, ensuring adequate engineering resources, technical support and engineering governance are maintained throughout project execution.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to construction teams on engineering design intent, technical specifications, construction methodology and field implementation issues
- Contribute advanced discipline expertise to the ongoing development of project work methods, processes and team development.
- Act as point of escalation and resolution for constructability issues at scope survey and engage with home office engineering to resolve.
- Accountable for delivery against agreed planned work scopes ensuring obligations are met by way of timely completion of work packs.
- Provide technical support for construction effort including participation in construction planning and design; interpretation of design; application of construction methods; resolution and documentation of design conflicts; constructability reviews, etc.
- Accountable for the effective management and timely resolution of Field Engineering Queries (FEQs), ensuring technical responses are accurate, complete and delivered within project schedule requirements.
- Review, evaluate and resolve site technical issues, design clarifications, interpretation requests and engineering deviations, coordinating with home office engineering disciplines where required.
- Provide technical input and review of Field Instructions (FIs), Field Change Requests and technical variation orders affecting project scope or design.
- Lead the identification, assessment and management of engineering changes arising during construction, ensuring impacts to safety, quality, cost and schedule are fully evaluated and managed through approved project change control processes.
- Maintain accurate marked-up master drawings and engineering records reflecting all approved field changes and design modifications implemented during construction
- Provide technical support and guidance to construction contractors, suppliers and commissioning teams to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, standards and specifications
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Appropriate level of construction experience in relevant industry sector, typically a minimum of 10 years of practical experience
- Excellent technical knowledge of construction and procurement discipline
- Ability to identify risk to delivery, build in and implement mitigation / contingency plans
- Expereience as an Engineering Manager preferred
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of Risk Assessments (RA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPS) and Hazard Identification Studies (HAZIDS).
- Expert level knowledge and understanding of technical specifications
- Understands the business drivers within customer organisations and is able to influenced these through innovative designs and cost effective solutions.
- Experienced in supervising and managing others, able to effectively delegate work, motivate teams and manage performance
