Position Overview
The Driver at PIH is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services while ensuring vehicle maintenance and compliance with organizational policies. This role requires professionalism, punctuality, and a commitment to safety in all driving operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely transport staff, visitors, and goods to designated locations while adhering to traffic laws and PIH policies.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, ensuring regular servicing, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance needs or mechanical issues.
- Assist with logistics, including airport pickups, deliveries, and official errands.
- Ensure proper documentation, including mileage logs, fuel usage, and trip records.
- Support emergency transport needs and respond promptly to urgent requests.
- Uphold PIH’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and ethical standards in all driving operations.
- Ensure proper documentation for passengers, cargo, and vehicle usage, maintaining compliance with PIH’s administrative procedures.
- Support vehicle security measures, including safeguarding assets and reporting any incidents or concerns.
- Adhere to the transport policies and other policies related to the organization ( eg, HR policy, Finance policy, ect
- Report all faults, maintenance needs and incidents/accidents to the Fleet Manager.
- Ensure all equipment allocated to the vehicle is complete and in good working order, including spare tyres and communications equipment (radios, satellite phones etc), before undertaking any journeys.
- Before commencing on a journey, ensure that the vehicle is in good working condition, clean, appropriately equipped and has adequate fuel for the intended journey.
- Abide by all driving rules of Sierra Leone and Fleet Manual.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- WASSCE
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in an NGO or healthcare setting.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of local traffic regulations and road safety practices.
- Ability to handle troubleshooting while on trips
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to PIH’s mission and values.
- Ability to handle vehicle log sheet
