About the Role

Our qualified regulatory lawyers possess unrivalled experience in providing legal services and expertise in the regulatory and financial services. This includes prudential and conduct of business requirements, information exchange and reporting obligations data protection, and anti – money laundering and sanctions compliance fields providing an international perspective alongside in-depth local expertise. We put a premium on teamwork and understand the importance of working closely with our internal and external clients to provide them with the best possible outcome.

The successful candidate will have exposure to some of the best, evolving offshore legal work in the market and will work as part of, and be supported by, a highly successful and collegiate team. The key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advising clients on a wide range of financial services regulatory and compliance issues, including AML/CFT/PF, sanctions, beneficial ownership, data protection, FATCA/CRS, economic substance, Country by country reporting (CbCR) and other international regulatory initiatives, as well as contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters, including reporting and governance obligations.
  • Advising on the application of BVI financial services legislation and regulatory frameworks to investment funds, investment managers, banks, financing and money service providers, virtual assets service providers, trust companies, corporate service providers, insurance businesses and other regulated entities.
  • Advising on multi-jurisdictional regulatory matters, including coordination with onshore counsel on cross-border regulatory/compliance issues affecting BVI-regulated entities.
  • Liaising with regulatory, administrative and enforcement authorities, including as part of regulatory inspections, investigations, enforcement action, AML/CFT/PF audits and other supervisory processes.
  • Researching, analysing and advising on legislative, regulatory and policy developments relevant to the financial services industry.
  • Working with a client base that comprises leading domestic and international financial institutions, investment managers, fiduciary service providers, multinational corporate groups and major onshore law firms.
  • Advising clients generally in relation to digital assets, virtual asset service providers, fintech businesses and emerging regulatory frameworks.
  • Drafting legal memoranda, opinions, regulatory submissions and client advice.
  • Assisting with client presentations, publications, industry updates and other business development initiatives.
  • Participating in the firm's knowledge-sharing and professional development programmes.
  • Ensuring that all time recording and client billing activities are completed accurately and on time.

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

  • Between 2 - 3 years' post-qualification experience as a regulatory, corporate or finance lawyer, ideally within a top-tier law firm in the British Virgin Islands, England or Northern Ireland that has externally-recognised expertise in regulatory, corporate and finance
  • A strong academic background, in addition to excellent written communication and drafting skills
  • The ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues, and work well in a team environment
  • Must be admitted to practice law in the British Virgin Islands, England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland
  • Experience advising on financial services regulation, compliance matters, digital assets or fintech regulation would be advantageous.

This post requires significant attention to detail, professionalism, ability to multi-task, and excellent organisational, prioritisation and communications skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to adhere to internal policies and procedures.
