We are seeking a Kitchen Steward to join our dynamic team and play a key role in supporting the Stewarding function within our organisation. Role Overview:

The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and hygiene throughout all assigned kitchen, dishwashing, storage, and banquet support areas. The role supports the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen and food and beverage departments by ensuring that all kitchenware, equipment, utensils, work areas, and service items are properly cleaned, sanitized, maintained, and readily available.

The Kitchen Steward plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, hygienic, and efficient working environment while supporting the delivery of high-quality food and beverage service and an Exceptional Memorable Experience (EME) for guests.

Main Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organisation of all assigned kitchen, dishwashing and stewarding areas.
  • Wash, sanitise and properly store dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans, utensils and kitchen equipment.
  • Operate dishwashing and pot-washing equipment safely and ensure all items meet required cleanliness standards.
  • Keep floors, walls, drains, sinks, work surfaces and waste areas clean and sanitary.
  • Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly handled, diluted, labelled and stored in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Support kitchen, Food & Beverage and banquet operations by ensuring clean equipment, kitchenware and supplies are available when needed.
  • Assist with banquet and event setup, breakdown and the movement of equipment and service items.
  • Maintain adequate stock of cleaning supplies, kitchenware and other stewarding items, reporting shortages or damaged items promptly.
  • Conduct basic checks of equipment and report any faults, damage, safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Follow all hotel health, safety, hygiene, sanitation and food safety standards.
  • Use equipment, chemicals and personal protective equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintain clean, organised and safe work areas throughout the shift.
  • Complete opening and closing duties to ensure areas and equipment are ready for the next service period.
  • Work closely with the kitchen, stewarding, banquet and Food & Beverage teams, particularly during busy service periods.
  • Respond promptly to requests and instructions from supervisors, chefs and other team members.
  • Minimise breakage, waste and loss of equipment and supplies through proper handling and storage.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative approach and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the department.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Basic secondary education preferred.
  • Food safety, hygiene, or sanitation training considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in stewarding, cleaning, kitchen support, or a similar hospitality role preferred.
  • Previous experience in a hotel, resort, restaurant, or high-volume food service environment considered an asset.
  • Experience operating commercial dishwashing or kitchen cleaning equipment preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established procedures accurately.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, hygiene, and detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning and dishwashing equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
  • Ability to handle kitchenware, equipment, and supplies carefully and efficiently.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen and stewarding operations.
  • Knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, and hygiene procedures.
  • Understanding of safe chemical handling and storage procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and workplace safety requirements.
  • Understanding of proper waste disposal and sanitation practices.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting, carrying, and handling procedures.

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25kg or more as required.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, reach, squat, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including hot kitchens and cold storage areas.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding cleaning and support duties throughout the shift.
