Manager, Collections

As WorkplaceNL’s Manager, Collections, you will be accountable for the management and control of the collections division to ensure employers are compliant with the registration, reporting and payment requirements of the Workplace Health Safety and Compensation Act, 2022 (the Act) and that all collection functions are effective, efficient and achieved in a cost-effective manner. You also share responsibility with the department’s management team for the ongoing operation, support, and modernization of Assessment Services information systems, processes and online services.

Role Responsibilities

  • Oversees and directs day-to-day administration of the collections division, including supervision and direction of employees and assignment of work
  • Establishes work plans, goals and objectives to meet operational and strategic objectives
  • Motivates and monitors staff performance for productivity and quality
  • Approves legal action and account adjustments prepared by staff ensuring they are in accordance with policy and procedure
  • Consults and provides guidance to staff on contentious issues and problems
  • Develops and delivers training programs ensuring staff are current on WorkplaceNL policies, procedures, guidelines and the Act and Regulations
  • Oversees and directly participates in recruitment and on-the-job training
  • Administration and continuous improvement of Assessment Systems and processes

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree with a concentration in accounting supplemented by a professional accounting designation
  • Five years of progressive management experience
  • Five years’ experience in accounting/collections field including financial and statistical analysis
  • Formal training or experience in systems design, development and implementation
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Well-developed planning, organization, analytical and decision-making skills
