Our National Underwriting team is looking for an ambitious Senior Underwriting Specialist who will utilize their strong portfolio management skills and underwriting experience to provide technical guidance and oversight for Sovereign’s Commercial Automobile underwriting practices. How you will create impact:

  • Leading or participating in the analysis of the Commercial Automobile underwriting portfolio to drive and maintain profitability.
  • Supporting the design, development, implementation and maintenance of policy wordings, guidelines, authorities, and underwriting resource tools.
  • Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of corporate underwriting standards, appetite, and philosophy.
  • Leading or participating in the underwriting audit process including follow up support to ensure action plans to address issues identified in the audit occur in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining forms, files, records as well as preparing reports, information and presentations as required.

To join our team:

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial automobile underwriting, with at least 5 at the senior or specialist level.
  • Strong analytical skills and an understanding of portfolio analysis metrics
  • Experience in other lines of business is an asset.
  • Experience training, coaching, and mentoring individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Proven project and change management skills with the ability to deliver on deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience underwriting commercial automobile across multiple jurisdictions is an asset
  • Experience with automobile rate filings is an asset, but not a requirement
  • This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.

Expected salary/hourly range $131,124- $218,540

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Sovereign in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
