Job Description
RESPEC is seeking a motivated Junior Drilling Engineer to support the planning, execution, and delivery of drilling projects within our Mining & Energy practice. Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, this role contributes to a variety of projects, including exploration drilling, solution mining, geothermal development, and disposal wells. The Junior Drilling Engineer will assist with drilling program design, field operations, technical analysis, cost tracking, and project reporting while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a collaborative, safety-focused environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to build technical expertise, develop industry knowledge, and grow a successful engineering career.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Support senior engineers and project managers in the planning, coordination, and execution of drilling projects
- Assist with the development of drilling programs, technical specifications, work plans, and project documentation
- Contribute to drilling cost estimates, project schedules, and technical calculations under the guidance of senior staff
- Monitor drilling activities and communicate project progress, field observations, and operational challenges to project teams
- Collect, organize, review, and maintain field data, records, and project documentation
- Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables
- Participate in drilling operations, field investigations, site visits, and other project-related activities
- Develop technical knowledge in exploration drilling, solution mining, geothermal energy systems, and disposal wells
- Engage in professional development opportunities and work toward professional engineering licensure
- Travel as needed to support project activities, typically 10-20% of the time

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- 0-3 years of relevant drilling, mining, energy, geotechnical, or subsurface engineering experience
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation preferred or ability to obtain
- Basic understanding of drilling operations, data analysis, and engineering principles
- Experience with reporting, cost tracking, or field data management is considered an asset
- Demonstrated desire to learn and develop in a consulting environment
- Must possess a driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record
- Internship, co-op, or related field experience is considered an asset

Compensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise. Compensation includes a comprehensive fringe-benefits package. RESPEC is a 100% employee-owned company and employees are eligible for participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) after a qualifying period.
