YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the Open Pit & Site Services department at Upper Beaver. You will ensure all work is planned and executed per the plan, ensuring workers and contractors are trained according to regulations and have the tools and direction to perform their jobs efficiently. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

Department Overview

The Open Pit & Site Services Department is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant management of all contracted open pit mining activities and site infrastructure services at the Upper Beaver Project. The department oversees contractor performance, mine production coordination, earthworks execution, water management infrastructure, and operational readiness activities that support both mining and site-wide operations.

Open Pit Mining

  • Given the scale of the open pit operation, primary mining activities will be conducted to external mining contractors. The department will provide owner oversight, technical coordination, planning integration, and operational governance to ensure production, cost, safety, and environmental objectives are achieved;

  • Deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective open pit mining and site infrastructure services while maintaining compliance with environmental permits, regulatory requirements, and company standards;

  • Align work with budget and considerations that support the mine with safety and cost-conscious awareness;

  • Conduct operational readiness and establish contracts to manage and oversee the open pit mining contractor;

  • Monitor contractor performance against production, cost, safety, and quality targets;

  • Ensure compliance with mine plans, pit designs, geotechnical requirements, and operational procedures;

  • Verify contractor equipment availability and productivity;

  • Support short- and medium-term mine planning activities;

  • Develop and maintain ore stockpile management strategies;

  • Manage waste rock storage areas and temporary material stockpiles.

Site Services

  • Support emergency preparedness and response activities;

  • Plan, construct, and maintain all operational roads and access routes while ensuring road conditions support safe and efficient equipment operation;

  • Coordinate snow removal, dust suppression, grading, and drainage control activities;

  • Execute site-wide earthworks required to support mining, processing, and infrastructure development;

  • Operate and maintain the Water Treatment Plant through direct management or contracted services;

  • Ensure all activities comply with environmental permits and site management plans , while minimizing impacts to land, water, and surrounding ecosystems.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Engineering degree preferred; equivalent education and experience will be considered;

  • Minimum of 10 years of mine engineering or operations experience, with 3-4 years in a leadership role

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) essential;

  • Results-driven with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities;

  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint;

  • Ability to coach and mentor teams and resolve complex technical concerns.
