Tenure-Track Faculty in Environmental Technology

IE University´s, School of Science and Technology invites applications for full-time tenure-track faculty positions in Environmental Technology. The successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary environmental science and technology area connected to the BSc in Environmental Sciences for Sustainability and to the broader research ecosystem of the School. The appointment starts in the academic year 2027-2028.

We seek outstanding junior or early mid-career scholars with a strong research trajectory, clear potential for international visibility, and the capacity to build externally funded research programs while contributing to high-quality teaching and student mentorship.

Candidates should be able to work across disciplinary boundaries and translate environmental science into technological, analytical, or decision-support solutions.

Priority Areas

The search is intentionally broad within the following priority areas:

  • Environmental and Bioprocess Engineering: Transport phenomena, separations, reactor design, physical and reactive transport, process intensification, pilot-scale environmental or bioprocess systems, and resource recovery.
  • Ecohydrology, Hydrogeology and Water Management: Groundwater and catchment hydrology, contaminant transport, water reuse, drought and flood risk, soil-water-plant processes, monitoring, and process-based or spatial modelling.
  • Experimental Environmental Synthetic Biology and Metabolic Engineering: Experimental design-build-test-learn approaches for engineered strains or microbial consortia applied to pollutant transformation, C1/CO2 conversion, waste-to-value processes, resource recovery, and environmental bioprocess scale-up.
  • Environmental Bioinformatics and Computational Biology: Emphasis on environmental and microbial genomics, including genome-resolved metagenomics, comparative and functional genomics, omics integration, protein or enzyme modelling, reproducible pipelines, FAIR data practices, and environmental technology applications.

Exceptional candidates in other areas of environmental technology will also be considered where they bring a strong quantitative, engineering or technology-development profile that clearly complements the School’s existing strengths and teaching needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in English in Environmental Sciences for Sustainability and related programs.
  • Develop a high-impact, externally funded research agenda in one or more of the priority areas above.
  • Publish in high-quality peer-reviewed venues and build international research collaborations.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, including laboratory, computational, field, and/or project-based learning where relevant.
  • Collaborate with academic, public-sector, NGO and industry partners on applied environmental challenges.
  • Participate in academic service and contribute to the strategic growth of the School of Science and Technology.

We Offer

  • A competitive salary in line with leading European academic institutions.

  • A professional and international working environment with English as the working language.
  • Access to public health services through the Spanish National Insurance Scheme, plus the option of additional private health insurance.
  • An open-minded, inclusive and family-friendly environment.
  • Campus life across Madrid and Segovia, including the historic Segovia campus and IE Tower in Madrid.
