Context & Environment

Within TotalEnergies’ OneTech branch, the Mechanical Department operates internationally, supporting the Company’s projects, sites and operational subsidiaries. It contributes to controlling and improving the performance of rotating equipment, while ensuring the development and maintenance of technical expertise within its field.

As part of a replacement following the retirement of the current position holder, TotalEnergies is looking for a Head of Mechanical Department based in Pau. The position has a dual focus: leading and developing a team of experts and specialists, while driving the technical vision and strategy for the mechanical discipline across the Company.

Reporting to the Head of the Technologies entity, you will be responsible for a department of approximately 22 employees, comprising engineers, specialists and experts with varying levels of seniority. You will also be a member of the Management Committee and interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders: projects, subsidiaries and operational sites, maintenance, inspection, R&D, procurement, suppliers and engineering companies.

Activities

Your main responsibilities will include :

Team management and skills development :

• Manage, support and develop a team of engineers, specialists and experts in the mechanical field, contributing to the development of the mechanical expertise career path and preparing the Company’s future experts;
• Ensure the level of expertise required for the department’s short-term performance and anticipate medium- and long-term needs.

Management of mechanical expertise and strategy:

• Define the vision, strategy and priorities for the mechanical discipline, ensuring consistency across the various specialties ;
• Lead and continuously develop the technical standards and guidelines for the discipline, capitalize on lessons learned and provide technical approval for deviations ;
• Drive technical strategies relating to rotating machinery and critical equipment: compressors, gas or steam turbines, and pumps ;
• Monitor technological developments and contribute to the deployment of innovations and R&D projects applicable to the discipline.

Support for projects and operations :

• Provide technical expertise to projects, branches, sites and operational subsidiaries in order to contribute to improving industrial performance;
• Participate in development studies and technical reviews to ensure the relevance and reliability of the selected solutions;
• Analyze operational issues and failures to contribute to improving industrial performance and support the definition of safe, reliable and competitive technical solutions.

Supplier relations and representation of expertise :

• Contribute to the technical management of suppliers and to defining the supplier strategy in collaboration with the relevant teams;
• Represent TotalEnergies, directly or indirectly, within your area of expertise before professional bodies, partners and external technical stakeholders;
• Promote the sharing of best practices and enhance the visibility of mechanical expertise throughout the Company

Candidate Profile

You hold a Master’s degree or Engineering degree (Bac +5 equivalent) in a technical field related to industrial mechanics and have at least 20years of experience in technical roles, acquired directly within the mechanical field.

You have operational experience within a subsidiary, industrial plant and/or in the execution of industrial projects, as well as proven experience in managing technical or mechanical teams.

In particular, you have :

• Strong expertise in rotating machinery, such as compressors, gas turbines, steam turbines and pumps, enabling you to be recognized as a key technical point of reference ;
• The ability to manage technical standards and technical decisions, assess deviations and support the resolution of complex operational issues ;
• Additional knowledge ofprocess, inspection, maintenance, projects and operations;
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to engage, influence and support experienced employees ;
• Autonomy, foresight and a strong ability to resolve issues encountered.

Experience combining a role with an industrial equipment supplier followed by experience within a major oil & gas, energy or industrial group will be considered an asset.

You are fluent in French and English, both of which are essential for working in the international environment of the position.

The position is primarily based in Pau and requires regular mobility, including travel between Pau, Paris and Le Havre, as well as occasional international travel to the Company’s operational sites.
