Senior Manager, Business Resilience Risk, CIB, Transaction and Payment Processing

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Manager, Business Resilience Risk, Corporate and Institutional Banking, and Transaction and Payment Processing, Asia and Middle East.

  • This role sits within Group Resilience Risk (GRR) under Risk and Compliance and provides provides 2nd line resilience risk oversight across Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) with a primary focus on Global Payments Solutions (GPS) in Hong Kong and the Asia and Middle East (AME) region.
  • The role has two core purposes:
    • Resilience Risk Steward for GPS and payments products – providing resilience risk oversight across GPS business activities, new products and change initiatives.
    • Transaction & Payment Processing (TPP) Risk Specialist – acting as the regional SME across business lines on end-to-end payment processing risk, controls, issues and remediation.

Role Purpose:

Resilience Risk Stewardship for CIB (with a focus on GPS)

  • Provide 2nd line risk stewardship, guidance and credible challenge to CIB (with a focus on GPS and payments products) across Hong Kong and AME, enabling safe growth and resilience to disruption.
  • Oversee emerging risks, change initiatives and new products, ensuring resilience risks are identified early and mitigations are designed-in (operational readiness, control design, monitoring, recovery).
  • Partner with resilience risk specialists (including data, third party, technology/cyber risk) to deliver coordinated 2nd line oversight and a clear, consolidated view for stakeholders.
  • Engage senior stakeholders and governance forums with concise, MI-backed insights, escalation of material risks, and recommendations that are practical and outcome-focused.

Transaction & Payment Processing (TPP) Risk Specialist (Regional SME)

  • Act as the regional subject matter expert for front-to-back payment processing risk, including payment lifecycle, processing flows, critical dependencies, controls, and common failure modes.
  • Provide a consolidated 2nd line view of TPP risk across business lines and markets, identifying systemic themes, prioritizing control gaps and remediation needs.
  • Conduct thematic reviews and deep dives with priority on transaction and payment processing risk (including exception handling, cut-off risks, repeat incidents, manual workarounds, reconciliation weaknesses), assessing whether the control environment matches the scale and nature of operations.
  • Provide 2nd line oversight of payments disruptions and outages, ensuring robust impact assessment, root cause analysis, prevention of recurrence, and effective recovery/runbook arrangements.

Stakeholder engagement and coverage

  • Act as a key 2nd line contact for CIB/GPS stakeholders in Hong Kong and AME, working across a global–regional–market management matrix.
  • Support the Regional Head of Business Resilience, CIB and TPP on risk oversight, governance and stakeholder engagement as required.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Strong payments and transaction banking expertise, with senior-level experience in:

    • Front office: payments product management, client solutions/implementation, client service; and/or
    • Middle/ Back office: payment operations and processing, payment controls
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end payment processing and its operational/client impacts.

  • Ability to translate product/process knowledge into credible 2nd line risk challenge (understanding what “good” looks like operationally for payments).

  • Proven experience in a relevant risk or control role such as Payments Risk, Business Risk & Control, Operational Risk, Resilience Risk, Technology Risk, Data Risk or Third Party Risk, ideally within financial services.

  • Highly analytical with the ability to interpret complex MI (volumes, exceptions, outage metrics, ageing, loss events) and turn it into actionable insights.

  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting to senior stakeholders and governance forums; able to influence outcomes across business, operations and technology.

  • A BA or BS University Degree, advanced degrees preferable (MBA, MSc, PhD) in relevant discipline
