Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi, Kenya. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring systems and processes aimed at enhancing the operational and financial efficiency of the Eye Care Clinic. In addition, the position holder will provide direct patient care by practicing as an Optometrist or Ophthalmic Clinical Officer, in line with their professional qualifications and area of expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Eye Care Clinic and Optical Shop to ensure efficient, patient-centred and high-quality service delivery.
• Support the Section Head in coordinating optometry, optical and related eye-care services, including patient flow, appointment utilization and service efficiency.
• Monitor and manage Eye Care Clinic and Optical Shop inventory, including stock levels, replenishment, stock accuracy, expiry monitoring, slow-moving items and stock variances.
• Conduct regular physical stock counts and ensure reconciliation between physical stock and system records.
• Monitor the appropriate utilization of ophthalmic, optical and clinical supplies and minimize stock-outs, wastage, expiries and excess stock.
• Coordinate procurement and replenishment of required optical and ophthalmic supplies and follow up on outstanding orders and deliveries.
• Support the effective utilization, maintenance and availability of ophthalmic and optical equipment and other clinic resources.
• Monitor clinic performance against agreed operational, productivity, service quality and financial targets.
• Track key performance indicators, including patient volumes, provider productivity, appointment utilization, clinic and equipment utilization, optical sales, revenue and other relevant eye-care performance indicators.
• Prepare and provide regular clinical, operational, inventory and performance reports, highlighting trends, gaps, risks and areas requiring intervention.
• Identify service and performance gaps and work with the Section Head and relevant teams to develop, implement and follow up on corrective actions.
• Monitor staff productivity and adherence to agreed service and performance targets and support initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and patient experience.
• Support the coordination of patient appointments, referrals, follow-ups and other processes that promote continuity and efficiency of eye-care services.
• Promote appropriate utilization of optical products and services while maintaining professional, ethical and patient-centred standards.
• Support quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience, service volumes, operational efficiency and revenue performance.
• Coordinate with the Section Head and relevant departments on clinical, operational, inventory, financial, procurement and performance-related matters.
• Support outreach Eye Clinics, Eye Camps and other community eye-health activities, as required, in coordination with the Section Head.
• Ensure compliance with relevant clinical, professional, organizational and safety standards applicable to optometry and eye-care services.
• Perform any other duties relevant to the role as assigned by the Section Head.

Licensure and Registration

• Registration and a valid practising licence for Optometrist with Optometrist Association of Kenya (OAK) regulatory body or
• Registration and a valid practising licence for Ophthalmological Society of Kenya (OSK) regulatory body

Qualifications

• Higher Diploma in Ophthalmic Clinical Medicine or Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Optometry
• Degree in Management / Business Administration /Finance will be an added advantage
• 5 or more years’ experience in a leadership position in a healthcare institution
• Excellent Customer service skills
