Summary: The successful candidate is expected to be an active contributor in the design, development, and validation testing of both new and improved STW products. This position requires an individual with a strong desire to learn, excellent critical thinking skills, and the ability to work both as part of an international team and independently to achieve project goals.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support and/or Coordinate the Steering Wheel (SW) development process, including preparing Build Requests, Test Requests, and Test Reports for Lead Engineers in Europe, Asia, or Auburn Hills
  • Design Steering Wheel (SW) considering the interface with Driver Airbag (DAB) to provide maximum quality and functional reliability at optimum customer value.
  • Create and modify drawings, tolerance stacks, and DFMEAs for new and modified SW designs including its components and mating parts.
  • Be able to analyze the results of finite element analysis, dynamic simulation models, and other predictive tools to optimize SW module - and component designs
  • Conduct testing (high-speed video of SW=DAB deployments, crash test results, etc.) to obtain data on the function and performance of SW modules, and be able to use the data from this testing to develop new – or improve upon existing – SW designs
  • Conduct independent root cause analysis studies and propose corrective actions/ design changes that resolve SW performance issues, and support root cause returned warranty parts.
  • Support building or modification of production lines to ensure conformance with the engineered design.
  • Conduct research studies to develop new products or manufacturing processes that improve quality, reduce component cost, and facilitate assembly while maintaining all customer requirements.
  • Support Manufacturing and Warranty by engaging in specific tasks to mitigate risk of component damage during assembly and customers warranty returns, and document lessons learned by updating programs FMEAs and drawings.

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
  • Strong technical knowledge and systems thinking
  • Detailed knowledge on automotive product development
  • Familiar in tools such as FMEA, Tolerance Stacks, and CAE analysis
  • Strong coordination and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication and Teamworking skills

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering)
  • Minimum 2 years practical experience within the automotive industry
