About the job

Responsible for the financial performance and reporting of the monthly close process and analysis of Sales, Inventory, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), and other Operational metrics for the plant operations. Coordinates the development of Labor and Overhead rates used in the budgeting and forecasting process, while ensuring internal controls, price variances, and other P&L activities are tracked and monitored.

Your tasks

  • Analyzes and makes recommendations to Finance leadership on the adequacy of controls in place for Inventory and COGS reporting, including analyzing product costs, labor variances, scrapped material, obsolete inventory, warranty reserves and cycle counting processes
  • Develops standard costing and material overhead rates and compares budgeted expectation against actual results. Make recommendations for improvement of costing process to ensure budgeted expectations are aligned with actual results.
  • Performs monthly closing duties and makes recommendations for accruals and accounting treatment pertaining to Sales, Inventory, COGS, and Warranty. Ensures accuracy and posts required schedules.
  • Prepares commentary and reporting for Finance leadership review including comparatives of actual versus budget and forecast performance for Sales, Inventory, COGS, Warranty and departmental expenses.
  • Performs financial data analysis and develops complex custom reports and dashboards using in-house reporting platforms.
  • Partners with Finance leadership in the development of yearly budgets for Sales and COGS.
  • Maintains and audits all worksheets, and reconciliations required for the month end close process.
  • Performs detailed calculations and analysis to determine inventory reserves to reduce costs.
  • Provides input for process improvements to the inventory and fixed assets activities to support a timely and accurate accounting close.
  • Works with the business to monitor on-going cycle counts, ensuring accuracy of inventory counts, supporting documentation and review of results and adjustments.
  • Assists with forecasting and the annual budget preparation process relating to cost of sales and product margins.
  • Partners with different functions of the business to ensure accuracy and control of master data related to bill of materials and other inventory transactions.
  • Coordinates physical inventory planning and execution including establishment and scheduling of resources.
  • Serve as primary resource for external auditor requests for information and analysis of sales, inventory, COGS, and warranty.
  • Coordinate with other departments on manufacturing information systems projects as necessary.

  • Economics and Accounting — Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, and analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • High Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • High Mathematical Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • High Reasoning Ability Skills - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: Office, Excel, Ledger System & Reporting, General Application Experience, Internet Software, Ordering Processing Systems, General Application Experience, Access.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • Six (6) years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment performing monthly closing, inventory control, and financial reporting and analysis.
  • Highly analytical and detail oriented in interpreting operating results and in developing and implementing improvements and recommendations.
  • Experience in working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong critical thinking with attention to detail and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
