Job Description

Operational Execution & Risk Management

  • Is 1st line of contact for trade compliance operational matters
  • Manage the full cycle of export/import licenses and permits in Malaysia, in particular within the Johor Free Trade Zone
  • Implement the import/export clearance procedures on the ground and secure cross-border daily movements.
  • Is 2nd line of contact for customs brokers to resolve border clearance issues
  • Monitor border financials (duties, VAT, indirect taxes) for the site
  • Secure record keeping of import/export package in line with Malaysian retention policies
  • Assist with day-to-day activities such as blocked order clearance and compliance documentation review.

Transactional SPL Screening

  • Perform Sanctioned Party List (SPL) screening for the Business Line’s counterparties and transactions to ensure compliance with global trade regulations.
  • Investigate and resolve SPL hits or potential matches in our Global Trade Management System (SAP GTS) and through offline processes and screening tools, to prevent shipment delays and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as SPL compliance specialist for entities not integrated with the company ERP system (SAP GTS), including legal entities associated with the Business Line.
  • Maintain accuracy and completeness of compliance master data (SPL, HTS, ECCN, COO) used in screening and trade declarations.
  • Execute high-risk transactional steps such as escalation of positive matches, documentation of screening decisions, and adherence to internal Manuals and Playbooks.
  • Provide guidance and clarification to internal stakeholders on SPL screening requirements, ensuring accurate and timely execution of screening activities.
  • Act as regional back-up to the Global Delivery Center for HTS, ECCN, SPL and CoO activities.

Process Execution & Quality Control

  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all transactions, ensuring activities are traceable and audit-ready.
  • Conduct quality checks on screening results and resolve data inconsistencies or system issues in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Escalate unresolved SPL matches or high-risk transactions per established escalation protocols.
  • Execute internal controls and self-assessments per SOPs and support local audit preparations, regulatory responses and corrective/preventive action plans (CAPAs) with oversight from the ITC APAC Lead.

Compliance Deployment & Regulatory Expertise

  • Monitor and interpret Malaysian trade regulations, ensuring timely updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Deploy compliance with import/export laws, including classification, valuation, origin determination, export controls and sanctions.
  • Support the design, implementation and maintenance of local SOPs, aligned with the global and regional ITC framework and with oversight from the ITC APAC Lead.
  • Ensure rigorous reporting to the ITC APAC Lead and resolution of compliance developments.
  • Stay up to date with internal rule changes, global sanctions updates, and system configurations through regular training.

Coordination, Training & Culture

  • Maintain close coordination with the ITC APAC Lead on local procedures, risk tolerance, and escalation protocols.
  • Coordinate with the GDC Lead on screening throughput, service levels, quality standards and process changes for the Business Line’s scope.
  • Support the ITC APAC Lead with the deployment of the local ITC training program across functions at the Johor site.
  • Promote compliance awareness and ownership beyond the core ITC team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Law, Trade Compliance, International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in international trade compliance, preferably in the life sciences, medical device, or manufacturing industry.
  • Working knowledge of the Malaysia Free Trade Zone regulatory framework and of Malaysian import/export clearance procedures.
  • Familiarity with Sanctioned Party List (SPL) screening principles and tools, including global restricted party lists and screening workflows.
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin (spoken and written) — required to translate and screen Chinese-language counterparty names and review local documentation for the Business Line’s scope.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to act as a bridge between the Business Line, local entities, and International Trade Compliance teams, particularly where SPL compliance activities are managed outside the company ERP system (SAP GTS).
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, Johor, Malaysia, with on-site presence at the manufacturing plant.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Experience with SAP GTS or an equivalent Global Trade Management system.
  • Strong attention to detail, operational discipline, and the ability to follow standardized instructions precisely while contributing to continuous improvement of internal processes and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate legal frameworks into operational controls, working across supply chain, finance, manufacturing and R&D.
  • Comfortable operating in a matrixed reporting structure and across time zones, combining site-based and digital, desk-based work.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
