The Bulk Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of bulk handling equipment and systems, including the loading, unloading, transfer, storage and monitoring of bulk materials. The position ensures that all bulk operations are performed safely, efficiently and in accordance with established operating procedures and HSE requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate bulk handling equipment and associated systems safely and efficiently.
- Perform loading and unloading operations of bulk materials from trucks, vessels, containers or other designated equipment.
- Monitor the transfer of bulk materials between storage facilities and operational areas.
- Operate and monitor pumps, valves, compressors, tanks, silos and related equipment.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections of equipment and report any defects or abnormalities.
- Monitor equipment operating conditions, including pressure, flow, levels and other relevant parameters.
- Ensure correct connections and disconnections of hoses, pipelines and transfer equipment.
- Assist with the preparation, movement and handling of bulk materials according to operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of material movements, equipment readings and daily activities.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in bulk operations, plant operations or a similar industrial environment.
- Previous experience as a Bulk Operator, Plant Operator, Process Operator, Cement Operator, Chemical Operator, Terminal Operator or similar role is an advantage.
- Experience operating pumps, compressors, tanks, silos, valves and material transfer systems.
- Experience with loading, unloading, transfer and storage of bulk materials.
- Previous experience in Oil & Gas, Mining, Cement, Chemical or other industrial environments is an advantage.
- Experience working in environments with strong HSE requirements.
Education & Qualifications
- Secondary school education or relevant technical/vocational qualification.
- Technical training in mechanical, industrial, process operations or a related field is an advantage.
- Relevant equipment/operator certifications will be an advantage.
- HSE/Safety training is desirable.
Technical Skills
- Good understanding of bulk material handling operations.
- Ability to operate pumps, valves, compressors, tanks, silos and related equipment.
- Basic mechanical and equipment troubleshooting knowledge.
- Ability to read operating instructions and equipment indicators.
- Good understanding of safe loading, unloading and transfer procedures.
- Ability to complete operational checklists and basic reports.
- Good knowledge of workplace health, safety and environmental procedures.
