Summary

The Solid Waste Services Department provides residential curbside collection of garbage, recycle, yard waste and a variety of specialized services. The department is organized into two divisions: Administration and Operations. The Technology Analyst works within the Administrative Division of Solid Waste to support the technology projects, initiatives and responsibilities of both divisions. This position will serve as a project lead for department-wide initiatives within their area of responsibility.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a highly collaborative technical professional with a proven ability to manage projects, strategically solve problems, and manage organizational change

You can manage projects, support business systems, troubleshoot issues, and communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and IT partners. Experience with project management, AVL/telematics software, or Cityworks is a plus.

  • Manages technical projects; defines system requirements, priorities and viable alternatives; presents solutions to stakeholders; prioritizes and coordinates tasks; maintains schedules and provides project updates; fosters organizational change management
  • Serves as project team member on projects with technical components; works collaboratively to present solutions to stakeholders; analyzes and documents requirements
  • Performs needs analysis; researches technologies for current and future projects; identifies and implements technical solutions and productivity enhancements
  • Oversees business processes and system solutions; identifies, develops, implements and/or maintains technology solutions.
  • Provides technology support for Solid Waste Staff; provides application support including system debugging, updating and configuration, user support; documentation creation/management
  • Coordinates vendor relationships; acts as the point of contact between Solid Waste and external vendors/partners
  • Provides analytical support of assigned business systems, servers and applications; develops and maintains reports, technical system documentation, end user reporting tools, database structures, queries and/or technical reference materials; develops system interfaces and extracts/migrates data
  • Provides user training and technical guidance
  • May serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion or may supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Associate's Degree or 2 Years of College in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; 1 to 3 years' experience in asset management, system administration or a related field

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • CompTIA A+ and Microsoft Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Cityworks preferred

Work Environment and Physical Effort:
Sedentary:Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Employees may occasionally work in a warehouse environment or in and around vehicles.

Work Exposures:
Work in this position does not require frequent environmental exposures.
