Senior Client Manager - Business Insurance, Transportation Practice
- Marsh & McLennan Agency
- Missoula, United States
- $80,000 – $110,000
The Job
Marsh McLennan Agency’s Business Insurance department is looking for a passionate and people-oriented customer service professional to develop, implement and deliver outstanding insurance and risk management customer service to our Transportation clients. As a Senior Client Manager, you will serve as the primary strategic partner with the sales team on new and existing key accounts, managing high-level relationships, driving retention, and identifying growth opportunities. Key skills include high emotional intelligence, strategic planning, and expertise in client management. We’ve created a promising career path with opportunities to move up the ladder and specialize in high-level client service and industry focuses as you move forward.
We will give you access to mentorship, training, resources, and development to ensure your success, but you will need to supply the drive and desire to be an MMA professional. Our ideal candidate is hungry, humble and smart- they don’t stop short of excellence and are driven to do what’s best for their clients, colleagues, and communities.
From admin to accounting and everything in between, we believe our team is all in sales together. We're dedicated to representing our brand with excellence and integrity in every interaction. We collaborate with intention and know every one of us plays a vital role in our shared success.
What You'll Be Doing
- Manage day-to-day client relationships and Transportation accounts by providing high level of service and responsiveness to client’s needs. Lead and grow complex trucking and transportation accounts, delivering strategic risk solutions, best-in-class service and proactive program management.
- Coordinate and produce insurance proposals, stewardship reports, analytics/benchmarking, market commentary and other client deliverables. You have a proven ability to interpret transportation client operations and exposures (fleet size, driver model, radius, garaging, commodities, brokered vs. owned freight) and translate them into underwriting-ready submissions.
- Analysis: Collaborate with colleagues to provide customers with insurance coverage analysis and recommendations for improved or additional coverage.
- Support renewals in a challenging transportation market—handling pricing pressure, coverage restrictions, and layered/excess program structures.
- Update customer information: keep accurate, up-to-date records on customers in our agency management system. You enjoy being organized and maintain accuracy at all levels.
- Up sell & cross sell: work with your colleagues to find and follow-through on up-sell and cross-sell opportunities.
- Customer service: ensure that you and your designated sales and service team provide effective and efficient customer service. You thrive in fast-paced environments, know the transportation landscape (motor carriers, fleets, owner-operators, logistics, and brokerage operations), and can translate operational realities into strong insurance outcome.
- Plus (the fine print): you’ll follow organization policies and procedures, sales and service standards and established workflows. You’ll ensure quality control through proper file documentation and maintenance. You’ll maintain confidentiality and be an all-around awesome member of our team.
Who We're Looking For
- You have at least 5 years of commercial insurance account management/client service experience with a strong focus on trucking and transportation risks. You hold an active P&C license; STAR and TRIP designations are preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated experience managing insurance programs for one or more of the following:
- Motor carriers (for-hire, private, LTL/FTL, regional/long haul, specialized fleets)
- Transportation brokers / logistics providers (property broker authority; contingent auto and contingent cargo exposures)
- Intermodal/drayage operations, last-mile delivery, or specialized commodities (e.g., refrigerated, hazmat, oversized/overweight)
- Working knowledge of transportation coverages and placement considerations, including: Commercial Auto Liability (primary and excess/umbrella); Motor Truck Cargo/Logistics Cargo; General Liability and contractual risk transfer; Contingent Auto Liability and Contingent Cargo (broker/logistics-specific); Workers’ Compensation (driver class codes, multi-state considerations); Physical Damage, Trailer Interchange, Non-Owned/Hired Auto
- Strong certificate management and contract review experience for transportation clients (shipper/broker/carrier agreements, additional insured requirements, waiver of subrogation, primary and noncontributory).
- You’re ready to throw all stereotypes of “insurance” out the window and love your job.
- You’re a team player. You maintain positive relationships with your colleagues—and you enjoy it.
- You’re that person everyone can depend on—to pay attention to details, to make deadlines, to be accurate and complete when interacting with clients, colleagues and carriers.
- You love to learn. You’re earnest about improving and pursuing professional development.
- You can adapt—because our industry changes constantly and so do the needs of our clients. You’re good at staying on your toes.
- You’re ready for a meaningful change. No more corporate vanilla structure for you. (Yes, an insurance company really just said that.)
- You embrace our core values: accountability, balance, excellence, integrity, respect and humanity.
We know there are excellent candidates who might not check all of these boxes. Don't be shy. If you're close, we'd be very interested in meeting you.
