Summary

The Account Clerk III performs highly responsible clerical document processing and basic bookkeeping work, including data entry, file retrieval and maintenance, and data compilation and verification. Examples of duties

  • Record transactions through data entry in assigned systems such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll or general ledger
  • Check, verify, sort, code and enter accounts payable data and process invoices
  • Verify the arithmetic accuracy of transaction documents (e.g. invoices, check requests, deposits, physical inventory counts and payroll related data)
  • Reconcile, compile, verify and summarize various postings of activities of the Authority to include but not limited to daily deposits and cash receipts, disbursements, physical inventory counts and payroll related data
  • Enter and retrieves data, via computer terminals, to and from computerized accounting files and databases
  • Prepare standard accounting documents (e.g. vouchers, invoices)
  • Respond to vendor inquiries regarding status of invoices, and employee inquiries regarding payroll transactions
  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data in order to process payroll
  • Prepare financial reports required for internal and external parties
  • Resolve payroll, accounts receivable, deposits, disbursement and physical count inventory discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Assist the Authority’s warehouse with annual physical inventory
  • Perform general accounting and clerical functions to support higher level accounting staff
  • Maintain proper filing of work-related documents
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to perform routine arithmetic calculations utilizing an adding machine
  • Demonstrated ability to review business transaction documents to verify completeness and accuracy of information
  • Ability to effectively interact with all persons contacted during completeness and accuracy of information

Supplemental information

High school diploma, or equivalent, and two (2) years of related office work involving progressively responsible accounting work.
