Metrology Leader

Position Summary: Responsible for development and management of the Metrology Lab operations. Provide vision and leadership in the area of quality, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction for the Laboratory.

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to CMM Operators and Programmers.

  • Train and develop Shape associates and internal customers on the interpretation and understanding of dimensional inspection and layout results.

  • Assist with the calibration and certification of process inspection and test equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with established requirements.

  • Effectively communicate inspection data, measurement results, and reports to ensure Shape associates and internal customers understand and can appropriately interpret the results.

  • Mentor and develop metrology associates in proper measurement practices, methods, equipment use, and applicable procedures.

  • Promote adherence to established metrology procedures, quality standards, and laboratory practices.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Metrology Laboratory to improve measurement accuracy, efficiency, and customer support.

  • Coordinate third party test lab services as needed.

  • Foster a safe work environment by implementing Shape's Health and Safety standards.

  • Perform daily Top5 meetings and mentor team members on daily expectations.

  • Promote Shape core values and systems.

  • Facilitate general problem solving activities with the intent of determining corrective and preventive actions.

  • Staff Management:

  • Conduct timely and complete performance evaluations of direct associates; and ensure timely and complete performance evaluation of associates reporting under your indirect supervision

  • Assess subordinates skill sets, current and future development needs and take steps to mentor and develop them appropriately

  • Set direction of department and hold individuals accountable to performance standards and strategic objectives

  • Create and maintain system metrics and report KPI metrics around calibration, measurement plan, and maintenance.

  • Audit current quality systems and processes for compliance.

  • Support continuous improvement activities through SES and the improvement idea process

  • Coordinate communication / documentation between shifts.

  • Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED); 60 hours or college coursework preferred.

  • 3-5 years prior quality experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • 1-3 years prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Applications (e.g. word, excel, outlook, etc).
