The Loudoun County Health Department is seeking a skilled, independent, and highly motivated professional to join our team.

Under the direction of the Nutrition Program Manager, this position provides paraprofessional nutrition services—including assessments, education, counseling, eligibility determination, and food package prescriptions—for low-risk individuals and families in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct nutrition assessments, including dietary histories, growth and weight evaluations, clinical data collection, and biochemical screening.
  • Determine WIC eligibility, certify/re-certify participants, assess nutritional risk, and issue eWIC benefits.
  • Provide individualized nutrition counseling and set dietary goals.
  • Deliver nutrition education to parents and children in both individual and group settings.
  • Support and promote breastfeeding programs.
  • Perform clinical tests (e.g., hematocrit) and obtain height/weight measurements.
  • Explain WIC-approved foods, policies, and procedures to clients.
  • Determine financial and residential eligibility.
  • Schedule nutrition-related appointments and check clients in for services.
  • Maintain required documentation; enter and retrieve confidential client records.
  • Provide courteous, timely customer service and direct clients to appropriate resources.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and outreach activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a related field.
  • Some experience in food production or in a nutrition program preferred.
  • Previous WIC experience.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish/English preferred.
  • Experience working with electronic health records.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Successful candidates will undergo background and fingerprint checks as required. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • Vaccination or proof of vaccination as required for Health Care Personnel by the Virginia Department of Health.
  • Successful completion of State WIC Competent Professional Authority (CPA) Training Modules and State certification as a CPA by the Virginia Department of Health WIC Program must be completed successfully within one year of hire.
  • Obtain any Department-required certifications within established time frames of hire.
  • Meet WIC continuing education requirements.
  • Pass TB test within 10 days of hire.
